Position Summary

This entry-level position has the responsibility for placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop support and inventory control.

Essential Functions

  • Place purchase orders for all non-product shop supplies, materials and/or outside services.
  • Manage suppliers.
  • Serve as backup for absent team members and cross-trained in various areas of the Supply Chain business unit.
  • Inventory control.
  • Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers, team members and managers.
  • Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability and other criteria
  • Interview vendors and visiting suppliers’ facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best value on behalf of the company.
  • Verify purchases by comparing them to a master list and recommend alternatives for expensive or irrelevant products.
  • Interact with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors.
  • Ensure suppliers comply with customer specifications.
  • Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.
  • Some travel may be expected.

Experience and Education

  • College degree in business, supply chain management or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
