HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

As the Assistant Nurse Manager of CCU/CCSD, you will assist the Nurse Manager in providing administrative and clinical leadership. To serve as both a staff nurse and a unit leader. Help plan, coordinate, and manage personnel and resources to provide the highest quality patient care with trained, professional, and competent staff in the most cost-effective manner. Provide for the ongoing educational and professional development of staff. In conjunction with the manager, will collaborate with physicians and other health care disciplines to assure optimal patient care.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Health Outcomes

  • Participates and promotes research activities related to nursing unit. • Demonstrates leadership for unit clinical and operational responsibilities which reflect direct line supervision for quality issues. • Coordinates and evaluates daily operations to ensure the delivery of quality patient care on the nursing unit. • Communicates patient care issues to unit manager and other health care team members as appropriate. • Participates in the evaluation of unit compliance with regulatory agency requirements (i.e., Accrediting Organization, CMS, etc.). • Collaborates with unit manager and medical director to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care delivered. • Develops and implements action plan by collecting and analyzing data, monitoring implementation, and making adjustments to achieve desired outcomes. • Coordinates and delivers PI presentations at meetings.

Associate Engagement

  • Provides clinical and management support to the department staff. • Develops and oversees unit work schedule. Provides direct patient care as a staff RN as needed. • Assists the unit manager with 90 day and annual performance reviews with developmental goals for staff on a timely basis. • Monitors and facilitates the resolution of performance and / or other associate related issues in conjunction with unit manager. • Promotes Shared Governance Philosophy and supports unit and house wide shared governance activities. • Maintains / updates ALEX/educational requirements for all staff. • Provides formal and informal education to staff that integrates age-specific or development needs into the delivery of patient care. • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and competency assessment of staff in conjunction with the unit manager. • Defines and implements a unit-specific orientation program that augments the general orientation classes. • Provides ongoing feedback to the unit manager regarding orientee performance and the orientation process. • Identifies educational needs of nursing staff and implements formal and bedside education geared toward enhancing nursing knowledge and the advancement of nursing practice. • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for staff to develop critical thinking and psychomotor skills. • Assists staff in the written development of a personal learning plan for 90 day and one year reviews.

Patient Satisfaction

  • Collaborates with team leader and unit manager on processes to improve patient satisfaction. • Communicates patient satisfaction issues to unit manager and other health care team members as appropriate. • Role models adaptive communication styles and techniques based on individual patient needs. • Role models positive behaviors/interventions to promote a positive patient experience for the challenging patient/family. • Consistently utilizes an individualized, holistic and non-judgmental approach to patient care. • Models this for staff. • Responsible for first line Service Recovery of patient, family and physician complaints and effective communication of unresolved issues to Unit Manager. • Reviews patient satisfaction scores and patient experience feedback to assist Manager and CNS in identifying trends and develops action plans to build loyal relationships. • Performs daily rounding on patients utilizing key words and questions to assess patient’s perception of hospital experience.

Funding our Future

  • Develops and oversees unit work schedule to ensure maximum productivity. • Ensures that charges are submitted for all procedures in a timely manner. • Reviews daily charge report to ensure accuracy. • Assists the unit manager to monitor productivity on a regular basis and works with unit manager to determine actions to enhance productivity. • Participates in short and long range planning for unit in conjunction with the unit manager. • Demonstrates effective time management by meeting deadlines and renegotiating timeframes as new priorities present themselves. • Assists in cost containment activities: accurate charges, proper care and maintenance of equipment, and management of supplies. • Coordinates, delegates and assumes responsibility of daily operations and standard work to ensure compliance for the delivery of quality patient care on the nursing unit. • Ensures department supply inventories are monitored carefully, replacement items are ordered to insure no interruption in patient care. • Assures all defective equipment is reported to appropriate department and ensures policy adherence.

  • Maintain focus on internal and external customer service to create customer loyalty. • Work with manager and medical director to determine ways to accommodate patients with maximum efficiency. • Physician Partnership • Develops effective physician relations and implements strategies for physician partnership and collaboration. • Identifies opportunities for physician recognition and promotes Physician Reward and Recognition.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Education/Experience: BSN • 1 year leadership experience • 3 years relevant clinical experience

Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work within a rapid changing environment. • Ability to work collaboratively with internal / external customers. • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient-focused care. • Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests. • Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. • Ability to perform lifting / transfer activities related to patients (up to 50 lbs. may be required. • Ability to take over 24 hour coverage of unit in absence of unit manager. • Ability to transport objects from one location to another. • Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. • For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. • Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
