The VOP team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build essential applications for the ministry. Join our team and help us craft the next generation of applications and websites and experiences for customers. As a core member of our team, you will build or expand your expertise in evangelism, while working closely with churches across our division to design, architect, and implement websites and apps that will delight, inspire, and empower pastors and members.

Essential Functions

Developing websites, Apps, and experiences are at the core of unleashing the potential of computing on VOP's platforms. As a member of our team, you will be at the forefront of ideating, developing, and shipping groundbreaking experiences that build on top of the unique capabilities of computing across a variety of areas. Our applications engineering team is uniquely positioned at the intersection of design, frameworks, operating systems, and low-level software — by joining us you will work closely with peers across these functions to deliver life-changing products to our customers. The ideal senior engineer for this role brings to bear proven expertise in shipping high-quality websites and apps to customers. You thrive in a dynamic and agile organization charted with trailblazing the new medium of ministry computing. You love answering questions through prototyping and experimentation, and then translating these answers into shipping code that touches the lives of thousands of customers. You lead by example by deploying best practices, and advocate for quality in your work and the work of others. You respect debate and enjoy working within groups of different technical and non-technical backgrounds and diverse opinions.

Job Specifications

Qualifications Scope and complexity of duties:

  1. Education:

BS or greater in Computer Science OR equivalent degree OR equivalent experience.

  1. Experience: Excellent track record (4 years) of building and shipping complex and user-friendly applications, websites, and user-facing systems in one of the following domains:
  • Apple platforms
  • Google platforms
  • Windows platforms
  • Web platforms
  1. Additional knowledge and understanding:
  • Deep knowledge of at least one of the following: Apple, Google, Windows, and Web development technologies and associated frameworks and tools.
    • Considerable experience in modern software engineering practices (Object-oriented programming, functional programming, declarative user interfaces, test-driven development, etc).
    • Experience with Apple's development frameworks and technologies (Swift, ObjC, SwiftUI, UIKit, etc).
    • Familiarity with Microsoft’s development frameworks and technologies (.NET, Swift, etc.)
    • Familiarity with Google’s development frameworks and technologies (Flutter, Android SDK, etc.)
    • Familiarity with WordPress WooCommerce and supporting technologies.
    • Familiarity with APIs, web, and App programming (C, C , C#, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, PHP, Rest, React, .NET, Python, etc.)
    • Familiarity with MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.
    • Experience in prototyping of user-facing features and working with designers.
  1. Other Skills and Capabilities:
  • Detail-oriented approach to problem-solving, planning, execution, and maintenance of software.
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to collaborate successfully with peers from diverse experiences and backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to drive results in a fast-paced and agile organization.
  • Experience in managing/leading/mentoring engineering teams.

  • Member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • North American Division Administration and Communication Department

Working Conditions:

  1. General working conditions of an office and production studio
  2. Travel flexibility and travel hazards
  3. Physical requirements: requires standing, walking, time at desk, reaching, climbing, and lifting (maximum of 50 lbs.)
  4. Schedule and Apparel:
  • A minimum of 38 regular hours per week,
  • Will require variable hours and weekend work
  • Professional business attire

Pay & Benefits

At VOP, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $59.525.00 – 74.222.88 and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
