Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma is Hiring a Coding Manager Near Tulsa, OK

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Coding Manager to join our orthopedic group. This position will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely coding of medical records while providing constructive feedback and maintaining compliance with current coding guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the coding workflow process and lead a team of coders, providing guidance and support.
  • Conduct regular quality assessments to maintain coding accuracy and adherence to coding guidelines.
  • Stay updated on coding regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Implement and monitor coding policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for coding staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the coding team.
  • Participate in audits and reviews to assess coding performance and identify areas for quality improvement.
  • Serve as a resource for coding-related inquiries and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for ensuring coding team meets and maintains the company standard for coding quality and productivity. Provides performance management/corrective action for productivity and quality to all direct reports.
  • Responsible for mentoring coders in their roles and perform coding education and training orientation in collaboration with the lead coder.
  • Assign diagnostic and procedural codes for orthopedic surgeries, consultations, and office visits according to ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Review medical records, operative reports, and other clinical documentation to abstract relevant information for coding purposes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation and coding practices.
  • Work with Compliance Committee to enhance quality assurance reviews to identify coding errors, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of coding policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Provide coding expertise and guidance to staff members and participate in coding education initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (Healthcare preferred).

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a healthcare organization.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Certification in Medical Coding (CPC/COSC required) through AAPC.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of ICD- 10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding principles associated with Official Coding Guidelines and regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of disease processes, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and knowledge of reimbursement structures.
  • Experience with resolving coding edits, including, application of modifiers, charge reconciliation, E&M level assignment, medical necessity, and LCD/NCD requirements.
  • Ability to create and analyze reports for gaps, trends, and other areas of opportunity.
  • Organizational skills for initiation and maintenance of efficient workflow.
  • Good working knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, compliance standards and industry best practices.
  • Attention to detail with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, physicians, and other departments to resolve coding-related queries.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for managing a team of Certified Coders.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a medical office setting.
  • Interaction with others may be constant and interruptive.
  • May involve dealing with angry or upset individuals.
  • May periodically work outside of normal work hours.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time.
  • Requires viewing computer screen and typing for long periods.
  • Requires normal physical strength to exert up to 25 pounds of force as needed.
  • Requires full range of body motion including stooping, bending and stretching when accessing files and supplies.
  • Requires normal concentration regarding complexity and timeliness of decision making.
  • Requires normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information involved.
  • Average visual acuity necessary to prepare or review documents or operate equipment.
  • Ability to speak, frequently conveying detailed or important information or ideas accurately.
