JOB SUMMARY

The Speech Language Pathologist in this position will Provide speech therapy services to patients when working in an outpatient area, he/she may be working in a noisy environment at times. Work in the fluoroscopy area of radiology is required when performing Modified Barium Swallow studies.

Administer appropriate standardized tests/screenings/informal assessments/clinical observations and after reviewing medical, educational, social, and financial information, provide interpretation and/or counseling of test results, recommendations, referrals, and follow-up for each case.

The incumbent will administer therapy sessions to improve patients' speech, language, and swallowing abilities, as well as educate patients and their families on speech therapy techniques and strategies for continued progress.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns in areas of speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language, and oral motor skills.
  • Opportunity to conduct treatment with our diverse client population.
  • Provides and direct Speech therapy services, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication.
  • Collaborate with family on diet recommendations and technique.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and monitor an individual's plan of care.
  • Identify and educate on communication impairments implementing treatment geared at restoration or compensation as appropriate.
  • Function under physician’s orders.
  • Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from referring physician.
  • Participate in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of administering standardized speech/language assessments, conducting swallowing evaluations, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapist, physical therapist, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team relative to individual patient treatment programs and progress.
  • Document patient evaluations, treatment progress notes, and discharge summaries for the patient's medical records promptly as defined by the department policy manual.
  • Document, prepare and complete a Plan of Care, progress notes, phone orders, and other clinical record documentation on an ongoing basis.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • ASHA certification required.
  • Must be fully licensed with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
  • TX SLP Licensure
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred not required.
  • Demonstrated competence in speech-language pathology evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment required.
  • Effective communication skills for working with patients, families and caregivers required.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • ASHA certification required.
  • Must be fully licensed with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)s.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of administering standardized speech/language assessments, conducting swallowing evaluations, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to speech and language disorders.
  • Experience working in an acute care or hospital setting, preferably with experience in critical care.
