JOB SUMMARY

The Respiratory Therapist Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Respiratory Therapy and Telemetry Department at River Oaks Hospital.

The incumbent in this position demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care. Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

AS THERAPIST - TELEMETRY

  • Responsible for performing a variety of therapeutic, diagnostic Respiratory Care procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, train and lead personnel.
  • Demonstrates advanced level of knowledge in high-risk modalities specific to the hospital.
  • Effectively administers all therapies such as Nitric Oxide (NO) administration and Tracheal Gas Insufflation (TGI). Performs advanced functions in non-traditional settings: OR, ED, Cath Lab, Recovery areas,
  • Performs bronchoscopy, Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) lab troubleshooting,
  • Consults with physician in the event of adverse reactions.
  • Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.
  • Maintaining and checking monitoring equipment daily.
  • Possesses knowledge and ability to provide continuous ECG monitoring through assessment of EKG strips and accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias interpretation including: measurement of P-R intervals, QRS widths, and ST segment deviations.
  • Orders repairs when needed.

AS MANAGER

  • Functions as a senior level resource to staff to facilitate problem solving, provide training, and demonstrate techniques when needed.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, orientation, training, and development for Respiratory Therapy and Telemetry.
  • Completes timely performance appraisals for direct reports. Provides structured feedback for each staff member through yearly development plans and informal and/or formal follow-up.
  • As required for department/program services, verify that policies, procedures, and standards are consistent with hospital, community and nationally recognized evidence-based practice standards and regulatory requirements such as Medicare.
  • Actively incorporate measures to obtain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Develop and implement departmental operations and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Coordinate and participate in pulmonary rounds.
  • Ensures that JCAHO requirements specific to the department are fulfilled but also understands the linkage between the department's requirements and those of the integrated hospital system.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing utilization and efficient use of equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining telemetry inventories, supplies, hardware and telemetry transmitters in working condition and responsible for appropriately reporting malfunctions promptly as applicable.
  • Maintain open communication with the administration team to address resident, staff, and facility needs.

PROJECT MANAGER, LAB (HYBRID DUTY)

  • Assist with budgeting, provides information about supplies, personnel, and equipment. Seeks avenues of cost containment.
  • Ensure results are back timely, cultures, resulting times, blood bank, monitor & audit turn-a-round times, transfusion times
  • Ensures the review of all quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance and quality assurance records and any associated corrective action.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's Degree in Successful completion of an AMA approved program for Respiratory Care
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care or Health Care Administration, preferred.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner License,
  • Valid/Active RRT certification.
  • 2 Years Work experience in a hospital-acute care setting, clinic, or LTAC
  • Working knowledge of Lab process as it relates to Respiratory.
  • 5 years Respiratory Care Experience.
  • 2 years Supervisory / Leadership experience.
  • Two (2) of the following are preferred: NRP, CPFT, RPFT, RPSGT, Asthma Certified Educator
  • Two (2) years of critical care experience, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn other software as needed.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • ACLS - American Heart Association upon hire
  • PALS - American Heart Association upon hire

EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of an AMA approved program for Respiratory Care.
  • Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner License upon hire.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care or Health Care Administration, preferred.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

  • Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner License
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • ACLS - American Heart Association upon hire
  • PALS - American Heart Association upon hire

KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. | Pediatric | Adolescent | Adult | Adult/Geriatric.
  • The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.
  • Responsible for meeting CHQ, JCAHO, and OSHA established policies and standards.
