JOB SUMMARY
The Physical Therapist w/Lymphedema Certification in this position will be responsible for recommending and administering basic and advanced quality patient care including screening and evaluation of patients, development of initial and ongoing treatment plans of care, discharge plan, supervision of assistants and Rehab Techs, and case management responsibilities.
The incumbent shall be responsible for providing a full range of physical therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions of patients with Lymphedema or patients established as a high risk for developing Lymphedema in a team environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.
The Rehabilitation department's commitment is to provide quality and service in all interactions with clients, including positive levels of interaction and rapport with facilities and clients. Adheres to all state and federal regulations regarding physical therapy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Optimize the functionality and skills of patients by providing, directing, and/or overseeing physical therapy.
  • Provide consultation and clinical supervision to PTAs.
  • Directly supervise PTA and Rehab Tech in skilled tasks during group and individual treatment in a manner that promotes efficient and effective utilization of resources and facilitates the ongoing development of clinical skills in accordance with State Practice Acts, Omnibus Reconciliation Act (OBRA), and Reliant Rehabilitation policy.
  • Build a strong Physical Therapy Program.
  • Enhance clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study- Lymphedema, and other continuing education activities.
  • Maintain a valid state license. Maintain awareness of issues related to the profession of physical therapy and the health care environment.
  • The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.
  • Plans, prepares, and carries out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in Lymphedema patients.
  • Records prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enters information into computer.
  • Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
  • Administers manual exercises, traction, or electrotherapeutic modalities to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity or crippling with Lymphedema patients.
  • Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Measures & records patient's motor function, strength, and muscle performance.
  • Monitors patient responses to treatments and makes modifications during treatment sessions as necessary.
  • Completes documentation in accordance with company policy and state/federal regulations.
  • Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.
  • Continuously provide quality care as well as reasonable goals and outcomes within the guidelines.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Lymphedema Certification Required
  • At least two (2) years of clinical experience required or completion of an accredited residency program.
  • A graduate of an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy
  • Valid Physical Therapist State License
  • Experience in working with an adult and geriatric population is necessary.
  • Experience with an inpatient/outpatient program/services.
  • CPR, BLS

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A graduate of an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy
  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
  • A graduate of an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy
  • Valid Physical Therapist State License
  • Lymphedema Certification
  • CPR, BLS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated competence in physical therapy evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment.
  • Effective communication skills for working with patients, families and caregivers required.
  • Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.
  • Assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of Lymphedema patients suffering from disease or injury.
  • Administers manual exercises, traction, or electrotherapeutic modalities to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent Lymphedema deformity or crippling.
  • The position requires occasional/frequent pushing and lifting 75 - 100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting.
  • Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary.
  • The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.
