Description

JOB SUMMARY

Ideal candidate will have experience in Operating Room, Hospital Patient Care or Healthcare Administration, Scheduling appointments, expediting Operating Room flow and providing direct customer service to patients. This includes but is not limited to process related to pre-registration, outpatient registration, inpatient admission, oversees the coordination of admission / discharge, and transfer. 

In this position, the Patient Access Coordinator, OR Scheduler is the first point of contact with ER Patients and serves one of the most important functions upon patient arrival. The incumbent will courteously and professionally greet patients and obtain accurate demographic and insurance information for registration. This position will work in harmony with hospital staff to ensure each patient is given the highest level of customer service adhering to the highest standard of ethical and moral conduct fully supporting the mission, vision, and values of the River Oaks Hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PATIENT ACCESS

  • Ability to incorporate excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, personnel, physicians, and peers.
  • Maintains consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
  • Obtains complete and accurate demographic, insurance and financial data to complete registration.
  • Updates and maintains patient database according to established procedures.
  • Facilitates the admission process by notifying the patient of the pre-admit information needed, collects personal information (financial, personal demographics, and insurance) from the patient, discusses patient co-pays / payments, and communicates with the physician’s office as needed.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner, under stressful OR demands while maintaining exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate (written & oral) with individuals and groups of various backgrounds and educational levels in high stress situations.

OR SCHEDULING

  • Schedules patient procedures and cases to ensure efficient and accurate processing of information. This includes procedures in the operating room, endoscopy lab, pain management and arrangement for hospital stays.
  • Coordinates with anesthesiology groups to confirm scheduling for coverage.
  • Applies accurate procedure codes to ensure proper billing.
  • Verifies information being entered into system is correct, i.e. spelling of name, date of birth, gender, insurance information, and so forth.
  • Ensures all necessary paperwork for case add-on is received by the appropriate.
  • Communicates changes to schedule to appropriate staff.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred.
  • 2 YRS Scheduling and Patient Access experience
  • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider. Must have a current card from an American Heart Association (AHA) .
  • Minimum of two years of face-to-face customer service experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Experience working in an Operating Room is preferred.
  • Experience working with patient records and charts and understanding of insurance.
  • Maintains consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
  • Ability to incorporate excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, personnel, physicians, and peers.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

  • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider. Must have a current card from an American Heart Association (AHA) .

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, professional environment.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and organized manner and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to incorporate excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, personnel, physicians, and peers.
  • Must have some flexibility to work HOLIDAYS.
