The Billing Director will create and maintain billing policies and procedures, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and develop strategies to improve billing efficiency, and accuracy. The Billing Director plans, develops, and implements new systematic approaches to achieve timely submission of claims and maximize revenue collection.

Job Duties:

  • The Billing Director oversees the Professional Billing team including managers, supervisors, and specialists (billing, denials/follow-up).
  • Designs and maintains workflow and claim rules within eClinicalWorks.
  • Creates and maintains Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Develops productivity and quality metrics for team members.
  • Establishes and maintains departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements strategies to maximize revenue collection, reduce denials, and improve cash flow.
  • Analyzes billing data to identify trends and opportunities for streamlining operations and creating effective and efficient workflows.
  • Stays up to date on changes in healthcare regulations and ensures billing practices are compliant with federal and state laws.
  • Maintains correspondence with physicians and team members regarding changes in guidelines and regulations.
  • Conducts regular audits to maintain billing accuracy and minimize errors.
  • Collaborate with insurance companies and third-party payers to resolve billing and reimbursement issues.
  • Ensures timely and accurate management of accounts receivable and denial management.
  • Monitors quality and quantity of team members workflow by performing periodic audits/reviews.
  • Answers and provides guidance on escalated concerns from clients and team members.
  • Generates regular reports on billing performance for senior management.
  • Provides data-driven insights and recommendations to improve billing processes and revenue outcomes.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, disciplines, and terminates teammates as needed.

Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth experience within the healthcare or medical services industry is essential.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to drive data-driven decision making in the context of healthcare operations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead cross functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in medical billing, revenue cycle optimization, denial management, and payer analysis.
  • Ability to work in multiple EMR systems, with the aptitude to adopt new technologies.
  • Mentorship and training of team members to ensure best practices are followed as week as continued enhancement to ensure efficient operations.
  • Strong understanding of medical coding, billing, appealing denials, and payer policies.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in health care administration, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Revenue Cycle and Denial Management
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role and managing a large team
  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is a plus.
