Administration Building is Hiring a PROGRAM SPECIALIST- SECONDARY MATH - TL2204 (#TL2204) Near Kent, WA

This position is 1.0 FTE/9 months

ASSIGNMENT: Under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Program Specialist - Math (Secondary) provides support for increasing teacher capacity for delivering high quality core mathematics instruction. As part of the District Support Team, this specialist will work with school improvement teams, grade-level or department teams, and teachers to implement content-based best practice strategies to close the achievement gap and increase rigor in mathematics classrooms. As part of the Teaching and Learning team, this specialist will contribute to the development of curriculum frameworks and related resources for implementing the district mathematics program. Additionally, this specialist will provide professional development on best-practices and a variety of print and technology-based instructional resources.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Incumbent may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below.   1. Assists the Teaching and Learning Team in achieving district objectives and carrying out policies established by the Superintendent and Board of Directors in Successfully Preparing All Students for Their Futures.
  2. Contributes to the development of district curriculum documents, assessments, and supporting resources.
  3. Supports the implementation and use of approved mathematics resources and assessments
  4. Assists teachers to implement classroom instruction based upon standards, the district’s instructional framework, and ongoing formative assessment processes. 
  5. Contributes to the development of annual and long-term goals; compiles, analyzes, and communicates data reflecting program goals and progress toward addressing disproportionality in student participation and benefit.
  6. Assists teachers in scaffolding instruction so that all learners meet standards, including Special Education and ELL students.
  7. Coaches, consults and collaborates with teachers, Curriculum Coordinators, and other Program Specialists to address differentiation for the needs of students in district frameworks and professional development activities. 
  8. Works in conjunction with teachers and administrators to analyze and interpret district and student achievement data for the purpose of determining school and district performance and individual instructional needs. Works as part of the District Support Team as assigned. 
  9. Trains teachers to use and support the implementation of district adopted math resources; models the effective use of curriculum documents and instructional resources. 
  10. Coordinates special programs as needed and works collaboratively with Inclusive Education and Multilingual Education colleagues to ensure a comprehensive and coherent continuum of services for students.
  11. Collaborates with teachers to analyze student work relative to content standards to improve classroom instruction and student achievementmodels the selection and use of a range of assessment tools as a means to make sound decisions about student math performance. professional learning community practices to enable student achievement in mathematics. 
  12. Contributes to School Improvement Processes.
  13. Serves as a member of the Teaching and Learning team of the district. 
  14. Maintains professional competency by attending district and other staff development conferences and workshops
  15. Serves as a program spokesperson to staff, parents, and community members; serves as liaison among parents, teachers, patrons, students, and district administration as needed.
  16. Communicates with parents in a positive and constructive manner.
  17. Serves on committees and works on special projects.
  18. Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Washington State Teaching Certificate (Secondary).
  3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful certificated experience instructing students in mathematics, grades 7 - 12.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree in related field.
  2. Bilingual (oral and written).
  3. Proven successful experience teaching in urban public education.
  4. Proven successful experience in an ethnically diverse public school district.
  5. Proven successful experience in working and learning in a Professional Learning Community.
