Overview

The VP, MRO is responsible for all aspects of performance of VSE Aviation’s Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) businesses and sites including customer service, sales, operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, purchasing, inventory management, customer satisfaction, quality, and compliance. The VP is responsible for both developing revenue and profit growth strategies sales in collaboration with VSE Aviation’s Distribution business unit and for implementing those strategies across all relevant functions. The VP will have full profit and loss responsibility for several MRO businesses and will be accountable for achievement of key financial, operating, customer, and talent development targets. The VP will drive the MRO organization to best in class financial and operating performance. Focus areas include BG&A Markets & Commercial MRO.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the business leader responsible for providing the overall strategic direction for the VSE Aviation’s Commercial Aftermarket Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Group and for the Business & General Aviation Aftermarket MRO Group
  • Accountable for leading and championing the key strategies that are critical to achieving all business plan objectives.
  • Involved in maintaining close lines of communication with key customers and suppliers and making key decisions relevant to pertinent business issues
  • Leverages synergies between all sites with regards to integration and collaboration to maximize business opportunities.
  • Works with sales, business development, marketing and supply chain leaders to secure new business in both OEM Authorized and independent MRO environments
  • Works with Aviation Human Resources and site leaders around organizational design, talent development and leadership planning to ensure that the MRO Group is in position for above market growth rates and other potential activities such as acquisition, rightsizing, expansion, consolidation, etc.
  • Function as a core, senior member of the VSE Aviation leadership team responsible for developing strategies and roadmaps to increase market share, brand awareness, and customer awareness.
  • Support identification and evaluation of geographic expansion opportunities
  • Supporting identification of new MRO capabilities that support profitable growth and execute on new repair capability development in collaboration with Quality, Engineering, and Technical Operations functions
  • Lead regular partnership discussions with senior executives.
  • Manage processes including due diligence for new organic and inorganic growth opportunities; lead the executive team through analyses of these opportunities; and lead the successful negotiation of deals with OEM and supply partners.
  • Develop relationships with key industry players and potential acquisition and growth targets.
  • Monitor and measure success of strategic initiatives through operational and financial performance metrics.
  • Plan, define and control the yearly budget to ensure that necessary resources are available, expense costs are reduced and maintenance capital return is maximized. · Negotiate, develop and review service contracts to ensure provision of quality, cost effect engineering and maintenance support.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDES EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES), ETC.):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, or a related discipline
  • 14 years of relevant/technical work experience and 11-13 years of leadership experience OR
  • An additional 4 years of specific work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Extensive knowledge of profit and loss in the aviation industry.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of assignments with varying complexity and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with integrity and professionalism.
  • Must be strategic, organized, and technologically savvy.
  • Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational and departmental needs.
  • Demonstrated attention-to-detail as well as organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be resourceful, use sound judgement, and understand when to elevate issues due to risk or complexity.
  • High sensitivity for protocol and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency using various software, applications, and programs including Microsoft Office Suite and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree
  • 16 years or above of working experience in the Aviation MRO industry, preferable on any type of engine or aircraft component repair
  • 15 years of leadership experience
  • Degree or above in Engineering and/ or Business Management or relevant disciplines.
  • Proven knowledge and track record in excellence in Continuous Improvement and executing organizational and operational productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Liaison experience with the FAA, EASA and/or other aviation industry agents.
  • Firm understanding of international travel, international customs and practices.
  • Experience with P&L and business plan strategy.
  • Working knowledge of inspection procedures, methods, equipment and accepted industry standards
