Adelbrook is Hiring a Director of Educational Services Near Cromwell, CT

Responsible for maximizing the budgeted census including oversight of pre-placements, referrals, and communication with all interested parties. Using the Positive Behavior Support system, oversees management of student behavior, including resolution of disciplinary issues. Assists in the development of new or improved programs and curriculum, ensuring effectiveness in serving the needs of all students. Oversees the supervision and performance evaluation of staff and with other programs/projects, as requested. Works in collaboration with the other Cromwell Academy Director of Education. Reports directly to the Vice President for Education.
This is a full time, exempt position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Reviews the appropriateness of day students for the Academy.
2. Ensures correct educational programming and participates in the intake and discharge planning for residential students.
3. Fills in for Special Education Teachers, as needed.
4. Directs, coordinates, manages, and/or evaluates the programs certified teacher, related service personnel, and other staff.
5. Determines the Academy’s operational schedule in collaboration with the other Director of Education.
6. Assigns students to specific teachers and services providers.
7. Ensures the delivery of all required services for each student.
8. Makes determination regarding the Academy’s curriculum in consultation with the certified staff.
9. Oversees programming mainly in Cromwell as well as other APSEF, as needed.
10. Coordinates discharge-related communication regarding enrolled students.
11. Ensures that program staff receive a copy of educational information (including individualized education programs (IEPs) concerning enrolled students.
12. Coordinates safety and emergency procedures
13. Coordinates arrival and dismissal procedures.
14. Serves as a behavioral resource; consults with staff to prepare Functional Behavior Assessments to develop Behavior Intervention Plans; determines appropriate action in cases of serious behavioral incidents.
15. Conducts formal hearings for students who are being suspended. Suspends students as needed in consultation with the Vice President for Education
16. Review documents for PPTs (IEP, Progress Reports, Assessments, etc.).
17. Represents the Academy at PPT’s.
18. Works collaboratively with Ädelbrook residential departments to ensure success of the school programs.
19. Interviews applicants for certified staff and related service personnel positions
20. Attends all scheduled Academy functions and meetings, as requested by the Vice
president for Education.
21. Consults with parents or guardians of students, LEAs, and other involved persons as regards behavior management and educational issues of students.
22. Oversees the progress monitoring of student IEPs through CT-SEDS.
23. Monitors the expenditures of the Academy as established by the CEO, CFO, and VP for Education.
24. Assists in the creation of forms and data collection instruments to record academic and behavioral performance.
25. Submits data to the State Department of Education in a timely manner.
26. Displays exemplary role modeling on the job.
27. Collaborates with Vice President for Education with additional projects, programs and meetings, as requested.
Education, Experience and Other Qualifications:
Master’s Degree. Minimum three years related experience in special education or a related service. Eligibility for Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092) as well as Special Education or Related Service endorsement; Excellent written and verbal skills; Experience working and collaborating within a diverse environment; Experience managing adults, including goal-setting, providing meaningful feedback and setting professional development plans; Demonstrated ability to motivate and empower staff, recognize success and promote accountability; Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and utilize data to drive instruction, operations and organizational decision-making; Ability and eagerness to champion young people in their ability to learn using various methods of differentiated instruction; commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of Ädelbrook.
Skills in the following areas are highly desirable: curriculum development, administration, budget management, instructional leadership, and group dynamics. Knowledge of effective behavior management systems, including Positive Behavior Support, and the ability to impart such knowledge to others.
Must be self-assured and possess a track record that reflects sound judgment and a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues and staff from diverse ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds. Must be able to function as a part of a team and to demonstrate flexibility in meeting program needs as they occur. Pre-service training in Physical/Psychological management Techniques is required. Commitment to the CT Code of Professional Responsibility for School Administrators (attached) is requisite.
