The HHS business unit support work across the HHS Operating Divisions, including CMS, ACF, NIH, CDC, and more. Our team supports Federal Health in building and improving digital services and delivering on strong client-facing programmatic initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:
In this role, you will serve as an experienced individual contributor within a team, with the expectation that you will further develop your leadership, guidance and mentoring skills. With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for advising communications strategies, supporting and leading effective communication modalities, and ensuring adherence to processes and policies. A Senior Communications Specialist impacts the long-term goals by providing strategic recommendations in support of effective and timely communications. You may serve as the primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive consensus and assignments to closure. Primary expectations of a Senior Communications Specialist include:
Experienced in applying research and analysis skills to create and advocate for effective communications content and plans
Solid understanding of communication methods and best practices
Supports leaders within the organization, assisting with communications required to appropriately convey a message, exhibits discretion when developing sensitive or confidential communications
Supports the development and management of newsletters and other communication tools
May support the execution of large meetings
In-depth understanding of the culture, operations, and processes to support the development of communications that meet the needs of the intended audience
Works with stakeholders to develop content for microsites; creates clear and concise content
Supports the management of the handbooks, and works with stakeholders to initiate updates
Exhibits excellent writing and verbal communication skills and proactively provides recommendations to improve content
Independently develops and socializes communications plans and briefings, with the goal of defining the appropriate audience, and ensuring that the content is disseminated via an appropriate methodology
Development of strategic skills in order to correlate communications to goals and objectives
May require familiarity with the basics of visual design, web design, and accessibility
Ability to navigate conflict and seek resolution in order to deliver results
Experienced with a variety of communication methods, and recommends the best course of action to meet the desired outcome
Experienced strategist with the ability to identify objectives and employ a strategic vision to meet the intended goal
Basic Qualifications:
Master's Degree or higher is required
Progressive experience leading communications projects

In support of theColorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, and others like it across the country, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
