Job Title: Histotechnologist II

Location: OU Health Histology Laboratory, Oklahoma, USA

Duties:

Job Summary: Under general direction, the Histotechnologist II performs routine and advanced professional and technical work for the OU Health Histology Laboratory.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Receive tissue specimens from clinical services and autopsy suite, ensuring proper labeling and assigning surgical pathology or autopsy accession numbers.
  • Place specimens in appropriate fixation material.
  • Assist pathologist in gross dissection of tissue and submission of tissue for histology examination, ensuring proper accession numbers.
  • Process sections taken for microscopic examination through multiple phases required for preservation and fixation.
  • Embed and section tissue, mounting on slides for examination.
  • Perform routine and special staining techniques of histology sections, including immunohistochemistry and advanced techniques.
  • Participate in quality assurance and statistical data gathering.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of all aspects of the histology lab process, including tissue processing, microtomy, special staining procedures, and immunohistochemistry for tissue differentiation and diagnosis.
  • Ability to work with precision and care to ensure accuracy and efficiency under periods of pressure and stress.
  • Ability to establish rigid controls to ensure proper identification of all specimens as to source and type.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • 1 or more years of related work experience in laboratory settings and quality assurance.

Required Education:

  • Associate's degree in Histology or Natural Sciences.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician),
  • MT (Medical Technologist),
  • HTL (Histotechnologist), or
  • HT (Histotechnician) certification

Certifications & Licenses:

  • MLT, MT, HTL, or HT certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Shift: Full-time (40 hours, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week)

Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Temporary

Pay: Up to $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
