QualificationsOne (1) year phlebotomy experience in an acute care medical center or non-acute care setting or equivalent military experienceHigh school diploma or General Education Development (GED) requiredLicense, Certification, RegistrationValid California phlebotomy certificateA valid certification is defined as:1.) Have in their physical possession the California Department of Health Services (CADHS), Certified Phlebotomist Technician (CPT) documentDemonstrated ability to perform the duties/responsibilities of the job at a fully satisfactory performance levelResponsibilitiesTo perform venipuncture and skin puncture and pre-analytical and post analytical steps of laboratory testingUpholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local lawsSelects the appropriate phlebotomy technique relative to the age and physical maturation of the patientAssesses the quality of blood to be drawn from the patient based on the patient's age, physical maturation and the test or study to be performedPerforms venipuncture, finger stick or heel stick, as required, proficiently on patients of all agesProperly labels sample(s) and transports to laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as requiredPerforms the pre-analytical phase of testing by bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing and staining of bacteriological specimensMonitors and maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and reagentsEstablishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnelPerforms other duties as required including checking in patients collecting appropriate revenue, accessioning test orders and giving preparation instructions to patientsHandles difficult patients in a professional mannerDisplays professionalism at all times, both in attitude and appearanceFollows directives form all supervisors, leads and seniorsAssume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directedPlease explain that this is technically a per diem role. They aren't guaranteed 40 hours. ALTHOUGH, all our people work 40 a week regularly. It's only happened once in the last 3 years where they cut back on hours for a 6 week period. Things slowed and some of our people were working 30-32 weeks. But again, reiterate that our peeps are working 40 regularly.
