Actalent is Hiring a Manufacturing Process Engineer Near Portland, OR

Actalent is looking for multiple talented Manufacturing/Process Engineers to support a local client site; these are long term opportunities.

Description:

Seeking multiple Manufacturing Engineers, ideally in the mid-level (3-7 years), to support a machining department. These individuals will be responsible for using structured problem-solving methodologies for any issues that arise in the machining areas, and will play a key role in root cause analysis and resolution. As a member of the team composed of Manufacturing Engineers who oversee other departments, this role will also collaborate with others on problem-solving and improvements.

Select Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of standard engineering tasks in planning and design of manufacturing machinery and other equipment in the machining department (CNCs and robots/automation equipment)
  • Work with other departments in the development and application of processes to increase production quality, efficiency, or volume
  • Use structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, DMAIC, PDCA, etc.
  • Improve production methods so cells/units are operating at optimal levels: production flow, tooling, assembly methods, and production equipment
  • Participate on project and/or continuous improvement teams
  • Develop and design production aids, fixtures, tooling, and gages for improved efficiency
  • Supply data needed for accurate estimates of lead time for implementation of manufacturing, material and purchased parts costs
  • Report on status and then final results of projects to ensure accomplishment of technical objectives
  • Support justification for new capital equipment (capex) or for upgrades/modifications to existing equipment (this may include the development of production machinery and managing installation process)
  • Provide feedback to product designers regarding design improvements based on manufacturability
  • Proactively identify problem areas and complete root cause analysis and process improvement that supports a lean environment
  • Support other departments with troubleshooting, plant layout, technical problems, and any other engineering issues as needed
  • Likely duties breakdown: 60% on floor doing root cause analysis and structured problem solving, 30% continuous improvement activities, 10% tooling/fixture design)

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 years of professional experience as a Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineer (internships, MECOP's, and other work may be considered)
  • Must be comfortable working on a manufacturing floor and being hands-on with machinery
  • Must come from higher volume manufacturing environment (this facility makes large numbers of parts in their daily production)
  • Background in machining (CNC) environment is required at some level; experience programming and code editing is ideal (not required)
  • Experience diagnosing issues and doing root cause analysis on CNC's
  • Experience regularly using structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, PDCA, 8D, etc.
  • Six Sigma certification highly desired
