Position Summary:
Support overall business objectives of lean and SQD&C through continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and operations in the Machining Department. Perform a variety of engineering functions in the planning, design, and optimization of manufacturing machinery, processes, and new product introduction. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, quality, and manufacturing disciplines in the development and application of processes to increase production safety, quality, cost, efficiency, and capacity.

Essential Functions

  • Support production in the Machining department as the primary sustaining engineer and as a member of the Continuous Improvement team.
  • Support automated manufacturing processes by programming and troubleshooting CNC equipment (vertical milling centers), robots, and other automated equipment.
  • Develop and design production aids, fixtures, end of arm tooling, and gages for improved efficiency of legacy products and for new product introduction.
  • Study and plan the improvement of production methods to ensure processes are operating at optimum levels. The scope of work may include process flow study, tooling selection and design, standard operating procedures (SOP), and production equipment support (conveyors, feeders, etc.). 
  • Develop, document, and test standard processes, operator techniques and equipment for new products to optimize output, quality, and process capability.
  • Monitor and report departmental KPIs. Create, refine, and implement data collection and reporting tools.
  • Determine processing methods and required manpower, capital equipment and tooling & gauging for new product introduction.
  • Continuously provide design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback to product development engineers.
  • Ensure project timelines conform to organizational schedules for timely introduction of new products to production. Support project management office (PMO) by supplying data needed for accurate estimates of lead-time, cost, and material required for implementation of new product to manufacturing.
  • Report status and results of projects to ensure accomplishment of technical objectives. Prepare and present reports outlining progress and results of projects and make recommendations to implement desired improvements. 
  • Support justification of new capital equipment and upgrades or modifications to existing equipment. This may include design of production machinery and management of equipment installation and integration.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with cross functional areas to ensure new products, countermeasures, and process improvements are introduced to manufacturing in an effective manner.
  • Proactively identify problems and organize support for manufacturing departments with root cause analysis and process improvement. Support manufacturing departments with nonconforming product investigation and countermeasure proposal and implementation.
  • Actively participate in a culture based on the principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Efficiency.
  • Design solutions to complex technical problems by introducing new technologies and techniques to the manufacturing cell.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Three or more years of experience in manufacturing process engineering required. Experience with vertical milling centers, Fanuc robots & software, and CAM software preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced CAD skills required. Experience with Solidworks preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced CAM skills required. Experience with HSMWorks or Fusion 360 preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNC machining fixturing, tooling, and machine design preferred.
  • Able to utilize structured problem-solving methods when required. (5W2H, 8D, fishbone diagram, etc.).

Requirements:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Note: Eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently stands and walks; talks and hears, uses hands to finger, handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally sits; climbs; twists, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.


Working Conditions/Physical Hazards:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment, and is frequently exposed to production environment. Work area is well lit and air-conditioned. All employees are expected to adhere to Company safety policies and wear personal protective equipment when exposed to work areas or performing tasks where it is required.
