Job Title: Field Inspector

Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned Field Inspector with a minimum of five years of experience working on construction, remodeling, retrofitting, rail or mass transit projects, or on projects within the general infrastructure environment. This role ensures contractors comply with applicable building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings. The successful candidate will manage multiple projects, mentor lower-level field inspection staff, and work closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer. The role also includes monitoring on-site construction activities, conducting inspections, and implementing project quality control plans.

Hard Skills

  • 5 Years of Infrastructure Inspection (AEC) - such as track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, architectural, structural
  • Understanding Structural Steel Inspection
  • 5 years performing welds and bolts inspections - Structural Steel Inspections
  • CWI or ICC Structural Steel certification
  • Proficient with building codes, and regulations, reviewing & implementing contract specifications, and drawings through ongoing, regular inspections
  • OSHA 30 and Authority's Safety Compliance certifications (preferred)
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or similar

Soft Skills

  • Ability and knowledge to read and understand contract specifications and drawings
  • Ability to mentor and/or train lower-level inspection staff
  • Flexibility on projects & schedules

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Birmingham, Alabama.

Work Environment

This position will work on-site with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) on a project set for completion in 2026. The work schedule is 8am - 5pm, with site visits located in downtown Atlanta. The Field Inspector will report to the Construction Manager / Engineering Manager and will be involved in various projects, including bus inspections, railway expansion, and new facilities. Flexibility is key as project assignments and schedules may change.
