We are looking for a strategic and dynamic Director of Multilingual Learner Instruction, Rhode Island to join our Special Services team in RI.

Your Impact

The person in this role will provide supplemental support to K-12 MLL program staff and general education teachers, including MLL specific PD & coaching to MLL Teacher-Coordinators, Deans, and Building Administrators.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Special Services, RI you will be responsible for:

Outstanding academic achievement and personal development

    • Skillfully lead others towards collective results - is relentlessly positive and solutions-focused; consistently leads and communicates with the “why” to rally others around shared goals. 
    • Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured environment that excites and invests educators to reach ambitious goals.
    • Build learner communities by partnering with classroom teachers, school leaders, and families to facilitate children’s academic success and personal development.
    • Utilize data from state exams, Achievement First assessments and English Language Proficiency assessments to drive instruction. 
    • Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with multiple grade or subject teams.
    • Exemplify AF’s core values in all interactions with students, families and colleagues. 
    • Demonstrate an assets-based approach to multilingualism and embrace culturally sustaining pedagogy.

Professional learning, development and growth 

    • Integrates MLL work within the functions and strategies of a school overall; applies development tactics in a way that is simplifying so others can execute at a high level with confidence. 
    • Be part of an MLL professional learning cohort at Achievement First.
    • Collaborate with the Senior Director of MLL Education, school leaders, and teachers to improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills. 
    • Attend all professional development, team planning and data analysis meetings, especially as related to expanding our vision and capacity of supporting multilingual learners across all AF Rhode Island.
    • Participate enthusiastically in structured and informal learning and development opportunities. 

Skills and Characteristics 

    • Strong instructional skills and experience in working with adult learners. 
    • High level of personal organization and planning. 
    • Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, sense of humor, willingness to respond positively to feedback and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude.
    • Strong belief in the Achievement First mission, core values, and educational model.
    • Mastery of and enthusiasm for subject matter. 

Educational Background and Work Experience 

    • 5 years of teaching experience preferred with a proven record of high student achievement. 
    • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.
    • ESL-certified in the state of Rhode Island
      • RI: All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages (11594)

Compensation

Achievement First sets salaries through a lens of equity, and based on the requisite skills, education, and experience relevant to the role. Salary for this role is $117,753.60. In order to uphold our commitment to equity, Achievement First does not negotiate pay. Achievement First offers to all regular, full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match, and paid Family Leave.
