Data & Analytics leverages business intelligence gained through advanced data analytics in order to maximize AARP's marketing and communications results. This includes using data science, data engineering, predictive modeling, and market analytics to guide data driven decision making.

Are you interested in how data is managed on an enterprise scale using the industry's most sophisticated tools and systems? AARP's Data & Analytics Group seeks a data engineer and/or data scientist to work on a cross-functional team who can roll up their sleeves and dive into the resources that support advanced analytics. Our team is looking for a candidate who can help innovate and enable AARP's ability to manage data through automation and scalable ETL processes. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of May/June 2024 and will go through the end of the summer, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.

• Research and develop innovative internal tools aimed at assisting users
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and scalable ETL processes
• Assist in monitoring system performance and implementing process improvements
• Assist in the configuration and management of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and frameworks
• Learn and apply industry best practices best practices of CI/CI tools and processes
• Participate in implementing monitoring and logging solutions for Databricks clusters and applications
• Create clear documentation for setting up and maintaining Databricks environments

• The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship and pursuing a degree in data engineering, data science, computer science, science in analytics, or relevant studies in software and information systems
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL
• Basic understanding of ETL processes and tools for moving, cleaning, and transforming data from various sources
• Interest in industry-leading tools and systems like Databricks, AWS, and big data technologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently researching, documenting, and implementing solutions
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, understand requirements, and present findings

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
