AARP is Hiring a Community Outreach Intern Near Providence, RI

Are you a creative, passionate, and results-driven student interested in community outreach and event planning? The AARP Rhode Island Team is looking for you! Our team creates and executes various events and projects to improve people's lives as they age and help build a better tomorrow for future generations. We'll challenge you to think and work innovatively on real-world projects. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2024 and will go through the end of the year, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.

Responsibilities

This position will ask you to put your creative, innovative, and organized skills into practice. You will work closely with the Associate State Director for Community Outreach to support the execution and implementation of virtual and in-person events and programs for the 2024 year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support and participate in the production of various virtual and in-person events
  • Communicating with volunteers and outside organizations
  • Maintaining Excel spreadsheets for various projects
  • Creating and/or revising PowerPoint presentations
  • Inputting events into the AARP event platform and following through on post-event activities
  • Organizing event/presentation materials within the AARP Volunteer Portal
  • Participating in team meetings and strategy discussions
Qualifications
  • Prospective interns must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university, be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers; this may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Applicants will have excellent written, oral, and digital communications skills; work well with diverse populations, including age, gender, race, and sexual orientation; manage multiple projects; anticipate project needs; and discern work priorities
  • Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be proficient in Zoom platform features
  • Applicants must be self-starters and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
  • In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
