A+UP Charter Schools is Hiring a Teacher - English Language Arts, Secondary Near Houston, TX

A UP is looking to hire a successful ELA - Reading teacher to teach students in grades 6-8. Certified teachers and those in ACP programs are eligible for hire. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university required. Critical thinking assessment listed on the job description is required. Candidates who do not submit the assessment within 24 hours of their application will not be considered for employment.

JOB GOAL
Drive student achievement gains to help students realize superior results in reading, writing and problem-solving. The goal of the teacher is to have 80% of their students hit Approaches or better on their respective STAAR test and for 80% of students to hit their growth goals on MAP or STAAR.
OVERVIEW OF A UP
A UP is a micro-school that focuses on student social and academic growth through personalized learning.

Our mission is to inspire scholars to reach their unlimited potential and become empowered people who take ownership of their lives and improve their communities. Our model requires educators to be proficient at ensuring learning and providing individualized academic feedback and character guidance.

PURPOSE AND EXPLANATION OF ROLE
The Learning Coach (LC) serves as part of the professional faculty of A UP. The LC works with the team to drive academic and cultural performance and growth for A UP Scholars.

This position will appeal to those rare and talented people who feel a call to work collaboratively with families, faculty, and scholars of A UP. An ALC will deliver instruction, assess learning, and provide feedback and coaching to A UP scholars. This is an hourly position and the terms will vary.

OUTCOMES
1. 80% of students will hit approaches or better on STAAR or meet or exceed annual MAP growth expectations in May.
2. Work directly with other Learning Coaches to directly support the instructional and cultural outcomes in the assigned classroom.
3. Executes on all A UP instructional and cultural strategies and policies.
4. Provide regular and direct instruction and instructional support to A UP scholars in class.
5. Provide feedback to A UP families and scholars related to students’ academic and behavioral performance.
6. Create a positive school community aligned to A UP values and goals through personal professional behaviors.
7. Communicate with A UP faculty and staff in a collaborative and professional manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach students and lead instruction and culture in a blended learning environment. Acts as both a teacher and cultural leader.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with 150 students and their families.
  • Create and maintain structures at the school that are conducive to learning and order.
  • Design and deliver content lessons in both an online and in-person environment.
  • Work with fellow faculty members to analyze student data, assess student needs, instruct students, monitor learning, provide feedback and assign interventions.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and personalized feedback to scholars on their work product.
  • Accept responsibility for academic achievement and growth results in the entire student cohort.
  • Treats students, parents, and other faculty members respectfully and as a partner in the learning community.
  • Solicit and implement feedback from team members to improve professional skills and participate in professional development opportunities locally, regionally, and virtually
  • Participate in and/or attend all professional duties including meetings, coaching sessions, conferences, ceremonies, and events.
  • Willingness to travel to local centers of culture and commerce, by public transit or as a pedestrian, with students weekly.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Texas Teacher’s Certificate (grades 6-8)
  • Ability to use educational technology
  • Readiness to implement Personalized Learning in a blended learning model

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using educational technology
  • Generalist Certification, Grades 4-8
  • Evidence of strong classroom management
  • Proven success working with diverse students
  • Recent classroom experience
  • Special Education/LEP certification or additional content certifications

EXTRA CREDIT

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • In order to satisfy the design of the Anytime/Anywhere learning component, the LC will plan for and execute on frequent mobile learning experiences for students that align with the mission of A UP.

Learning Coach must plan for, coordinate, and participate in said travel.

COMPENSATION is competitive with that of other districts. A comprehensive benefits package is included.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and requirements of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

A UP team members will need to walk to various locations throughout Houston. This will be regardless of temperature and weather conditions. Candidates must be able to negotiate walks that may exceed one mile each way with a twice-a-week frequency. Candidates must also be able to stand for long periods of time.
