Job Description: Facilities Technician
Reports to: Operations Coordinator, Chief Operations Officer
Status: Full time, 12 month
Job Summary: The Facilities Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the school’s facilities. It is essential that the person for this role is organized, able to multitask, work flexibly and independently, and have a ‘can do’ approach to work, as no two days are the same. They should have a general working knowledge of what it takes to maintain a school facility including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
Qualifications
● High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
● Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances in accordance with ASUA policies
● Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
● Ability to work with minimal supervision
● Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
● Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible, able to multitask, and work independently
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all school property and facilities, to include but not limited to the buildings, grounds, and vehicles
● Ensure all furniture and equipment is in safe working condition
● Assemble furniture and ensure anti-tip and/or locking hardware is installed and maintained, where necessary
● Ensure storage areas are safe, clean, well-stocked, and organized
● Complete maintenance requests in a timely manner
● Complete routine and preventative maintenance, as needed
● Paint, remodel, repair, refurbish areas as needed
● Clean windows and glass doors, as needed
● Maintain HVAC systems, including installing, moving, or de-installing window air conditioner units
● Remove and dispose facility waste in an appropriate manner
● Change light bulbs and maintain light fixtures, interior and exterior, as needed
● Be on call for emergencies, 24/7
● Supplement contracted maintenance (snow removal, landscaping, etc.)
● Order and/or purchase necessary materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
● Schedule for movers, junk luggers, dumpsters, plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, landscapers, and any other contracted maintenance required by the school
● Schedule, obtain, operate, and return moving vans and/or trucks
● Oversee the daily trash removal, cleaning and restocking, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, cleaning and disinfecting, graffiti removal, etc.
● Accept and receive deliveries
● Assist in the movement of items between classrooms, rooms, and campuses
● Use the Google Suite and Email to collect maintenance requests, follow up for more information as needed, and to interface with other employees, departments, contractors, etc.
● Ensure all chemicals are labeled and stored properly, including the maintenance of MSDS sheets, where applicable
● Ensure the proper disposal or recycling of a variety of materials
● Assist other administrative staff in the maintenance of inventory lists
● Travel between campuses, as needed
● Obtain (through purchase or rental), use, and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including but not limited to power tools
● With the Senior Team and other administrators, ensure the school facilities are in alignment with the school’s Strategic Vision, school culture, and mission
● Perform other work related duties, as assigned
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
● Read and abide by the Employee Handbook including updates and changes

● Duties can be performed in the building, community, or in other off-campus locations

● Work in high noise level areas
● Work around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints, etc.
● Work around students with disabilities in a manner that keeps all individuals and work areas safe
● Wear appropriate safety gear, as needed
● Work in coordination with landlords and their staff, as needed
● Maintain the appropriate licensure to operate school vehicles, hired moving vans and trucks, and any other equipment necessary to complete job functions
Competencies Required:
● This position works independently, under general direction, and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks
● Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures
● Good team player and very reliable in working and managing time without close supervision
● Ability to observe safety and security procedures and to comply with policies
● Ability to read and interpret written information; ability to write clear statements; ability to communicate orally
● Must be able to do physical work and operate power equipment normally found in facilities maintenance operations
● Attention to detail
● Ability to follow schedules and keep commitments
● Ability to demonstrate professionalism
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required (up to 75 pounds). Adequate vision and hearing ability for monitoring children’s verbal and non-verbal responses.
Safety and Health:
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
Equipment/Material Handled:
The Facilities Technician shall be assigned a variety of materials and equipment which are to be appropriately stored and accounted for. All materials and equipment are to be judiciously used and are to be maintained in a reasonably unsoiled and non-damaged fashion.
