Position: Creative Arts Specialist

Reports to: Creative Arts Lead/Director of Educational Programming

Status: Full Time

Job Summary: Creative Arts Specialists lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of specialized programming both in the building and virtually. Examples include Dance and Movement Specialist/Therapist, Music Specialist/Therapist, Art Specialist/Therapist, etc. Assessment/evaluation, intervention, IEP collaboration, related documentation, and communication between teachers, instructional assistants, and families are provided. Must demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families.

Certifications and Qualifications:

Successful completion and graduation from an accredited specialized program in the area of service

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and experience in field of service

Current (dated within a year) Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances

Essential Duties and Competencies Required:

  • Work as part of a collaborative team delivering whole group, small group, and individualized instruction and services.
  • Knowledge of specialist area theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice.
  • Ability to analyze tasks relative to areas of performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the service delivery.
  • Skill in gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklists, histories, and interviews.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and sequence relevant purposeful activities that support goals.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain safe environments (in building and virtually), equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes.
  • Willingness to be educated and trained for specific program implementation.
  • Initiative, strong work ethic, and the ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Educate and demonstrate (verbally or written) techniques to parents that can be incorporated into the home.
  • Provide feedback to the IEP team regarding area of expertise to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education courses as appropriate or required.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of evaluation results, progress reports, discharge reports, daily notes.
  • Manage relationships with faculty, parents, and outside constituencies
  • Lead by example to support a culture that reflects the values of ASUA
  • When required or requested, the Creative Arts Specialist will work in the classroom to support scheduling coverage and support. Activities will include, but are not limited to, lunch, recess, individual and group IEP activities. At any time, the Related Service Specialist may accompany and support students who are participating in programming with our community partners.
  • Travel between campuses as needed and directed.
  • Duties can be performed in the building, community, or in other off-campus locations.

  • To read and abide by the Employee Handbook including updates and changes.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings, including those that fall outside of regularly scheduled school hours and as described in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. Adequate vision and hearing ability for monitoring children’s verbal and non-verbal responses.

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
