Job Description:

Family Developers walk side-by-side with resource parents, developing rapport and inspiring trust. Under the direction of the Program Supervisor/Manager, the Family Developer is responsible for recruiting, supporting families through the process, and approving resource parents who are appropriate resources for A Greater Hope [AGH]. 

This position requires regular and consistent attendance, excessive absences are disruptive to our Agency business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit resource families who have the ability and desire to provide foster care to the vulnerable youth who are referred to AGH’s treatment foster care program.
  • For the purpose of recruiting resource families, establish and maintain community contacts such as: (1) schools; (2) community organizations; (3) faith based organizations; (4) service groups; and (5) other resources as deemed appropriate.
  • Utilize a multi-systematic approach to recruit resource families including, but not limited to: (1) create and place recruitment advertisements and determine value and efficiency of such advertisements; (2) make presentations to the community, church groups, civic groups, etc. for the purpose of recruiting and educating people about AGH’s foster care services and opportunities; (3) utilize current AGH resource families for recruiting; and (4) assure articles and stories related to foster care are places in the news media.
  • Manage the family development/recruitment process by guiding prospective resource parents through each step, completing and verifying all information and sharing updates with other key team members.
  • Connect with prospective resource parents and caregivers through phone calls, appointments, and follow-up communications.
  • Collaborate with talented teammates to identify and solve any issues that arise.
  • Plan fun activities and trainings that help build a strong sense of belonging and competencies among applicants and current families.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of prospective and current resource parents and caregivers.
  • Establish positive relationships and function as the point of contact with prospective families.
  • Provide licensing requirements to prospective families.
  • Follow-up with prospective families frequently through the approval process.
  • Assist to assure approval is completed; assist with home studies, references, health and safety reviews, etc.
  • Provide in-home training when an approved resource family receives their first placement.
  • Track all inquiries made to AGH by individuals and families interested in providing foster care.
  • Expected to approve families in 90-days at least 80% of the time.

Requirements

Qualifications:

A successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:

  • High School diploma required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in social services, human services or public relations with demonstrated public relations skills preferred.
  • Must have 1 years experience in customer service/sales roles.
  • Knowledge of the population served with a strong commitment to the core values to services for the children and families is preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills; written and spoken English.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred and may be required as noted in job posting.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Strong decision making abilities and the ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to conduct his/herself in a professional manner when representing the agency to the public and other governing agencies.
  • Maintain a welcoming environment for families and other community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy practices.
  • Adhere to our attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Must pass and remain current in CPR/First Aid. 
  • Must be able to effectively utilize computers and basic computer software. 
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends and some holidays as needed. 
  • Must meet Community Care Licensing and insurance requirements. 
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience. 
  • A Greater Hope includes all employees in the DMV pull notification process, notifying AGH of infractions throughout the process. 
  • All Employees are required to report all arrests within 48 hours of arrest as per Community Care Licensing requirements. 
  • Must pass a drug screen, physical exam, and Tuberculosis skin test. Must agree to COVID 19 Vaccination.
  • Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice. 
  • A Greater Hope participates in E-Verify and will verify your Social Security Number. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong conflict resolution, communication and organizational skills; with great attention to detail. 
  • Foster Family Agency experience preferred. 

Physical Demands:

There are physical demands associated with this position. The employee must also be able to remain in a seated position while working in the office. Employees may be required to and must often lift or carry items 10-50 lbs., usually holding it in the hands or arms or on the shoulder. There may be situations where the employee will have to care for the personal needs of infants and children such as managing personal accidents/bathroom support, feeding and, cleaning up infants and children. The employee may be working outside for periods of time in all seasons of weather community work or home visits are required for the position.

Employees will be required to drive a motor vehicle.

All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by our agency. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.
