Job Description The Washington Post is looking for an accomplished, creative and impact-oriented journalist to drive coverage of some of Silicon Valley’s biggest tech companies, the growing creator economy and their vast impact on American society. This job requires an experienced editor who knows how to help reporters source up, spot trends, break news and capture the next big idea ahead of our competitors. The ideal candidate will be adept at helping reporters identify consequential news and enterprise targets that illuminate the impact and evolution of the companies and key figures in the industry, especially how they intersect with broader social and political trends. We’re looking for someone with the flexibility and news judgment to shift gears as the conversation moves – from the latest wave of tech layoffs to the latest investments in generative AI, from national battles over content moderation to local battles over self-driving cars – and the editing skills to elegantly translate it all for a general audience. Responsibilities: Directly manage a team of reporters covering some of the tech industry’s biggest companies and trends. Work with other editors on the tech team and throughout The Post newsroom to drive coverage of the tech industry. Set ambitious coverage priorities, seek excellence in story selection and encourage collaboration. Help reporters break news or tell stories that demand attention in other ways, for example through compelling visuals, audio, graphics or alternative story formats. Elevate copy and deliver stories with sharp takeaways and framing. Foster a supportive, empathetic work culture that furthers staff development and sets high expectations for achievement. Preferred qualifications: At least five years of professional journalism experience. A track record of managing reporters and editing with distinction, preferably in the technology industry. A sophisticated understanding of The Post’s approach to business and tech journalism, which prioritizes accountability reporting about companies, their social and political impact and their often-fraught interactions with government and regulators. The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The annual salary range for this position is: $122,500 - $204,100. The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
