Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) is charged with the mission of preventing HIV infection and reducing the incidence of HIV-related illness and death. The Laboratory Branch (LB) supports DHAP’s goals in HIV prevention as they pertain to clinical studies, viral transmission, diagnosis and incidence, intervention research with microbicides, vaccines, and chemoprophylaxis as well as investigates other human and zoonotic retroviruses. The lab conducts and develops new methodologies and multiple preclinical HIV intervention studies using nonhuman primate (NHP) models for HIV detection, quantitation, isolation, evolution, and surveillance including drug resistance.
In order to conduct these important activities, the DHAP LB needs various laboratory assistant support. Research Laboratory Assistants shall support laboratory-based research on various ongoing studies of HIV transmission, drug resistance, diagnostic and recency testing development, and/or provide appropriate biological expertise to enhance anti-HIV intervention studies and exploring immunological HIV transmission; Biological (Animal) Technicians will perform the animal related procedures for laboratory-based research on safety and efficacy of antiretroviral drugs and microbicides using nonhuman primate models of HIV transmission.
SECTION 2 – PURPOSE
The purpose of this acquisition is to obtain research laboratory assistant support for laboratory activities pertaining to the mission of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases (DDID), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Laboratory Branch.
