Job Skills / Requirements

Position / Title: Security Officer  Status: Full-time (40 hours)

Location: Pittsburgh, NS, Oakland Shift: Daylight

Experience Required: Pref Minimum: Some security experience, demonstrated proficiency with the duties of all facility security posts – galleries, entrances, docks and tours. Customer service, public relations, and asset protection a must.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Providing the necessary operational support to ensure the protection of the people and assets from various threats and potential threats such as theft, vandalism, fire and assault, following the procedures set forth in the Employee Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Emergency Operations Plan.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Must have the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and communicate instructions to others. Must have the ability to understand and achieve a basic working knowledge of the security system, procedures, and access control within an established training period. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Access, and a basic understanding of Adobe Reader.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must demonstrate emotional stability during periods of tension and stress while carrying out assigned duties. Must have excellent ability to hear, see, smell and otherwise observe surroundings. Must be able to climb, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accurately observe surroundings, including video display monitor.
  • Maintain records and written reports.
  • Deal with difficult situations firmly, courteously, calmly and with respect for the rights of others.
  • Demonstrate initiative and common-sense judgments in responding to emergencies.
  • Analyze situations incisively and objectively and determine the proper course of action to be taken.
  • Make rounds of the building and stand watch for long periods of time.
  • Patrol and monitor assigned areas to assure collection, public and building security.
  • Investigate, observe and report any unusual conditions, noises, odors, events or improper behavior as directed by Security Department procedures.
  • Observe security system monitors, implement security and fire alarm procedures, respond to radio and telephone calls, issue visitor and contractor badges and maintain logs as required.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures for securing assigned patrol area including operating various gates and doors, turning lights on and off and opening and closing windows as necessary.
  • Provide all requested information and assistance to visitors. Act to resolve their special requests, problems or concerns to achieve mutual satisfaction.
  • Respond to emergency situations (such as accidents, illness, fire, building evacuation, and disorderly patrons) in accordance with prescribed Security Department procedures.
  • Observe safety and security procedures including proper use of equipment.
  • Exhibit professionalism in attire, work habits and communication.
  • Must follow work rules, regulations and procedures for the Facilities Planning & Operations department and CMP.
  • Cooperate as a member of the front-line team (with Customer Service Representatives, Museum Guides and Gallery Attendants) to provide seamless customer service. Demonstrate respect and dignity to co-workers and visitors.
  • Execute security services as outlined in site-specific Post orders and directed by Security Management
  • Answer phones as needed
  • Observe and report suspicious activities and persons
  • Enforce rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and respond to emergency situations requiring security assistance
