Salary Range: $42,000.00 - $54,000.00 Salary/year

Description

1736 Family Crisis Center offers crisis intervention services, including four 24- hour hotlines, as well as longer-term services in client advocacy and outpatient psychotherapy. The residential counseling and support services include shelter programs for (1) runaway and homeless adolescents, (2) domestic violence and human trafficking victims and their children (emergency and transitional programs (3) Homeless prevention and rapid re-housing services for the general population and Veterans and their families. Community outreach programs are provided to educate the public and prevent mental-health problems in the general population and in targeted groups to at-risk populations.

Summary

The outreach worker implements the outreach efforts of the SSVF program under the guidance of the SSVF Program Supervisor that includes street outreach and program marketing to locate eligible homeless veterans. Collaborates with SSVF outreach coordinator to create targeted outreach plans/strategies to include direct street outreach, creation of collaborations with non-profit, public agencies and governmental agencies, to identify homeless individuals for the program. The outreach worker will go out into the community to interact with the homeless population to present 1736 programs to homeless veterans. Conducts presentations of agency programs to community based agencies and law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement targeted outreach plan to include street outreach, program outreach and collaboration with public and governmental agencies, non-profit agencies and organizations that serve the homeless population.
  • Conduct street outreach to identify homeless veterans and present the program as an alternative to homelessness
  • Pre-screen candidates to assess their willingness and qualification for the program
  • Conduct presentations to community based agencies, government agencies and law enforcement on 1736 programs.
  • Be a liaison between the VA outreach department, community outreach departments and 1736 Family Crisis Center.
  • Participate in fax and letter campaigns to establish referral base
  • Participate in community committees and meetings regarding homelessness in effort to identify homeless veteran population areas.
  • Maintain weekly reports recording the locale and activities of each visit.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • B.A. preferred, but not necessary
  • Previous experience in working with the homeless population preferred but not required.
  • Knowledgeable of substance abuse issues, therapeutic interventions, and treatment planning, particularly as relevant to Therapeutic Communities
  • Working knowledge of community resources as they relate to homelessness and veterans
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer and data entry skills; adept at use of various computer programs (Microsoft Office and/or other computer programs)
  • Well-organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, good team player.
  • Culturally competent, with excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability to work with economically, culturally and linguistically diverse clientele.
  • Experience and knowledge in working with a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Must be detail oriented, flexible, and self-motivated
  • Exceptional phone etiquette
  • Three (3) years of work experience is preferred
