16th Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri is Hiring a Security Officer Near Kansas, MO

POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

POSITION PURPOSE: To ensure court facility is safe and secure for the protection of youth, staff, and general public.
MAJOR TASK STATEMENTS AND REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES:
(Percentage of time)
45% Screen visitors and employees by operation of electronic devices, or verification of proper identification. Confiscate, log, and secure forbidden, or illegally possessed items.

    • Guard property for illegal entry of persons and forbidden and/or illegal articles by screening all building entrants.
    • Greet individuals and advise of screening prior to entry, or checks credentials for admittance.
    • Examine pocket contents of visitors and direct individuals through metal detecting device and to place bags or other containers onto x-ray device.
    • View x-ray monitor to detect forbidden articles.
    • Ask individual to remove metal articles from person if detector shows signs of metal or use hand held metal detector to locate metal item on person.
    • Request owner to open bags or containers if x-ray shows questionable contents
    • Request visitors to remove forbidden items from containers or person.
    • Confiscate, secure and log forbidden and/or illegal items, which could include concealed weapons, controlled substances, etc. and return to visitor upon their departure, destroyed, or given to appropriate jurisdictional law enforcement agency.
    • Communicate with staff by telephone and walkie-talkie.
    • Lock and/or unlock doors/entrances and examine to ensure they are secure.
    • Maintain proficiency on use of Automatic Defibrillator, and perform related work.
45% Prevent, control, and respond to disturbances, confrontations, or noise. Check visitors upon entry, escort youth/disruptive visitors, and detain individuals.
  • Provide assistance and information to visitors with regarding office and court locations, operations, etc.
  • Remove disruptive individuals or parties from courtroom or adjacent area.
  • May be present in court or adjacent area to prevent, control or respond to potentially disruptive situations and handle accordingly.
  • Remove, detain, apprehend or arrest individuals upon order or probable cause, which may involve physical interaction and the use of mechanical restraints.
  • Escort youth to court and between facilities.
    5% Patrol and monitor parking areas and grounds.
  • Patrol daily and visually monitor parking lots to detect and question unauthorized parkers and suspicious activities or persons to prevent criminal activity.
  • Issue parking permits to staff.
5% Prepare and maintain logs/reports, and conduct investigations.
  • Prepare and maintain written narrative and report forms relative to visitors, items held or confiscated, disturbances or related information.
SUPERVISION OF: None.
SUPERVISION BY: Manager of Security Operations provides direct supervision. Work monitored by results, deadlines met, and meetings.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY:
INTERNAL: Frequent, daily service to Judiciary, all levels of staff in providing safe environment while in facility, on grounds, in court. Conduct preliminary investigation of alleged crimes on Court property.
EXTERNAL: Frequent, daily service to public in providing directions and information regarding operations, procedures, locations, etc., and in providing safe environment while in facility, on grounds, and in court. Daily escort of youth to court.
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: X-ray device and monitor, hand held electronic wand, mechanical restraints, baton, walkie-talkie radio, telephone, report forms, visitors’ personal items, and keys.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Two years’ work experience in law enforcement, corrections, military, or security field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be qualified to successfully obtain Private Commissioned Officer Class A license, as required by RSMO and outlined in 17 CSR 10-2.050 Testing Requirements and Qualification Standards, which includes but is not limited to the following qualifications: A. Be a citizen of the United Sates. B. Be at least 21 years old. C.) If a veteran, possess an honorable discharge, or general discharge under honorable conditions. D.)Meet physical/mental established board standards. E.) Have no felony convictions.
    • Also required to successfully obtain firearm authorization and complete court approved firearm qualification program.
    • Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by the Court.
    • All applicants for this position are subject to testing for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
    • Employees in this position are subject to random and reasonable suspicion testing for illegal drug use.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of effective security procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to operate and interpret x-ray device and metal detection equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and ability to prepare clear, complete, and logical reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to rapidly assess a variety of situations such as those that represent a potential threat to persons or property and choose appropriate course of action; ability to remain calm and in control in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to wear protective body armor and ability to operate an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
