Day shift, 12 hour shifts, 9a-9p

Major Responsibilities :

Creatively tries to fill staffing needs. 1)Reviews with units the staffing needs, working with the staff to try to fill the staffing need with available staff.

2)Helps the staff to problem solve staffing shortages or excesses. 3)Directly contracts the various float pool staff for additional availability.

4)Works collaboratively and closely with the staff and Administrative Coordinator to find solutions that minimize staff impact and maximize meeting the patient’s needs.

Gathers information about staffing needs 1)Listens to report with Administrative Coordinator, concentrating on the integral needs of the units.

2)Communicates with the Charge RNs via telephone to gain first-hand information about staffing on each unit. 3)Reviews the documentation in the nursing office related to staffing, including, but not limited to the composite, the schedules, and the sick log.

4)Takes telephone calls through the shift related to sick calls and additional needs as a result of admissions or discharges.

5)Receives updates from office staff on current private duty cases.

Integrates the staffing needs with the available staffing. 1)Collaborates with the Administrative Coordinator to confirm clinical needs with available staffing.

2)Assigns the available staff to meet the needs. 3)Documents the assignments and calls the appropriate personnel, including the unit, and the assigned personnel and the Administrative Coordinator, if that is necessary.

Works with outside agencies to provide assistive personnel as requested by the unit. 1)Documents the need in the nursing office record books for assistive personnel.

2)Contacts the agencies and requests the staff. 3)Confirms the assignment and documents it. 4)Verifies qualifications of outside personnel.

5)Contacts the nursing unit when the assignment is made. 6)Communicates issues of performance to the agency and the Administrative Coordinator to assure that quality personnel are sent from the agencies.
