The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office is considered one of the nation’s leaders in innovative specialty court programs. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office Support Enforcement Division helps more than 8,000 families provide the financial and emotional support their children need. Our Support Enforcement Division collects about $85,000 per day in medical and child support for the youngest and most vulnerable Oregonians and is one of the most cost efficient agencies in the State of Oregon. Your role as a Support Enforcement Agent is to provide technical assistance in establishing and enforcing child support orders and paternity through administrative and judicial processes in accordance with federal and state statutes. The services you will provide will improve the wellbeing of children, reduce reliance on public assistance and encourage family self-sufficiency. These positions are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. If interested, there are opportunities for hybrid schedules! This position will be located at the East County Courthouse 18480 SE Stark St, Portland, Or. 97233 The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Responding to phone calls and letters from custodial, non-custodial parents, attorneys, Department of Justice, other intrastate and interstate child support agencies and other public and private agencies requesting information. Responsible for reviewing assigned cases from new applications to determine and initiate appropriate administrative or judicial legal action including establishing or modifying a support order, establishing paternity, review cases with existing orders for non-custodial parents, and compliance with terms of the order. Determine and initiate the appropriate administrative and judicial legal enforcement action; Contact non-custodial parents who have failed to make payments to negotiate payment or initiate appropriate legal action. Assist parents in overcoming barriers that prevent them from meeting obligations, negotiate payment agreements, monitor cases for compliance. Most Support Enforcement Agent positions are full-time, however this list may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call openings. Required Minimum Qualifications / *Transferable Skills: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by course work or training in collections, legal assistant, or a related field; AND Two years of increasingly responsible legal or collections experience or case management experience. Experience working with a high level of confidential information. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines. Must be able to work together as a team under pressure with time sensitivity. Must be flexible and able to assist on other caseloads on short notice. Ability to promote a culture of respect, inclusiveness, and appreciation of diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and values. Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferable Skills: Two or more years of experience in a child support enforcement office or a District Attorney's Office. Bilingual skill in Spanish Is preferred (will require a language proficiency exam) Experience in Family Law and working knowledge of the court system. Experience in case management. *Transferable skills: Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience (including the military) or life experience that are relevant for this position.
