The Department of Community Services' Transportation Division is looking for an entry level Engineer 1. The successful candidate has the ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and has exceptional communication, analytical and organizational skills. This position functions under the supervision of the program manager and with assistance from an Engineer 2 or 3. In this role you will: Coordinate and perform project management duties for capital design or construction projects; support development of contract specifications and cost estimates, perform scheduling work, inspect construction activities and field-check work progress, cost, and quality; and prepare project status reports. Oversee consultant design and construction work for repairs, rehabilitation, or replacements of bridges and roads. This includes review of calculations, sketches, designs, working plans, specifications, bid invitations, contract letting, and change orders; review and recommend approval of contract payments. Communicate with the public relative to road, bridge or matters related to capital projects, project planning, and County infrastructure; and function as a liaison with representatives from county, state, and local agencies. Participate in the implementation of strategic plans; research, analyze, and recommend changes to existing procedures, policies, and processes that guide capital project delivery.
