About the Role: Head of Data Governance with at least 15 years of experience in data governance, data management, data compliance or a related field, will be leading the team responsible for data governance at Gen. This role is critical in providing assurance that data is effectively governed, protected, and utilized to drive business value. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain policies and frameworks, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Responsibilities: Establish a data governance framework aligned with business objectives and the data landscape Partner with the Head of Data to develop and implement a comprehensive data governance program Implement policies and procedures to identify and safeguard sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII). Define data lifecycle management processes and controls, including acquisition, storage, archival, and disposal. Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and other CDO functions to establish data ownership, accountability, and stewardship responsibilities. Develop and implement a plan to provide continual assurance as to the quality of data and data products Oversee the hiring of new data governance analysts and engineers. Review and adjust the data governance team skills mix and diversity according to the organization's objectives and risks Develop and implement a plan for the professional and career development of data governance staff Provide mentorship to help them develop their professional and personal development to improve their performance Lead by example at the organizational level Inspire, motivate, and guide others to adopt a point of view, make changes, or act Cultivate an open, cooperative, and collaborative learning culture for the organization. Data Strategy and Governance Framework: Assist in defining Gen’s data strategy and developing a governance framework that aligns with business goals, objectives, and priorities Establish data management policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure data quality, privacy, and security Data Governance Program: Partner with legal, security, privacy, and other stakeholders to define data policies and procedures. Define the policies, processes, controls, and frameworks, to effectively manage data assets throughout the data lifecycle Enforce data policies and procedures, including data usage, access, retention, sharing, and privacy, in compliance with relevant regulations such as GDPR or CPRA. Data Quality and Standards: Establish data quality standards and ensure data accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness. Defining data quality metrics and developing a roadmap for implementation based on the criticality of the data and data products Ensure data profiling and cleansing processes are integrated into the data product design lifecycle and managed by each function of the CDO Develop metrics for data accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, timeliness, and uniqueness Data Lifecycle Management: Create a framework (including key performance metrics) for evaluating the maturity and measurable quality of data at Gen Partner with privacy and compliance to ensure data is properly retained, archived, and purged Collaborate with system and data owners to ensure systems and data storage structures support data governance requirements Data Quality Assurance: Determine the scope, frequency, and extent of data quality assessments Implement a data issue management process to quickly address data quality issues Report on the quality of data and data products to CDO leadership and senior management Education and skills: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Proven experience in a similar role managing data governance, data management, or related field. Strong understanding of databases, data lineage, and data management systems. Understanding of data compliance and regulatory requirements (GDPR, PCI, CPRA, etc.) Familiarity with cloud technologies, and data-related laws and regulations. Strong leadership and team management skills.
