Child Care Worker- Job Description

Child Care Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth for our adolescent residents. Staff will monitor and supervise activities and behavior of adolescents in the resident care of 1Trust Group Home, through regular contacts with resident's schools, individual/family therapists, and home visits. Monitor homework completion, cooking, cleaning, oversight of recreational and social activities, daily progress notes/incident reports, and observation during regular household routines, weekend activities and visitation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Directly Report to the Administrator
  • Assist/monitor/teach individuals with preparation of daytime activities; encourage good personal hygiene, and behavior appropriate in their home
  • To assist in maintaining a healthy, positive environment for the youth by acting in a mature manner, while providing a positive role model.
  • Assist Direct Supervisor and all other staff in the assessment of each resident’s abilities, interests and need areas toward independent living.
  • Assist/monitor/teach individuals in budgeting skills.
  • Assist/monitor/teach individuals engaging in daily chores.
  • Assist/monitor/teach individuals as needed in grocery shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and clean up.
  • Assist/monitor/teach individuals in holding house meetings and informal discussion groups with peers.
  • Provide information of resident performance in a professional manner, record keeping, documentation of behavior, shift checklist, participate in fire drills, maintain a working knowledge of all resident’s whereabouts
  • Assist in the maintenance of the physical house either directly or in the supervision of the residents in an effort to reflect a well-kept home like facility
  • Supervise and document the location of youth 24/7. This includes doing itinerary checks
  • Keep thorough confidentiality of all documentation on all youth and information in their case jackets, i.e., discussion with non-employees and other residents is prohibited
  • Maintain the security of all office/storage areas and the home routinely
  • At any time, assume additional responsibilities that are in support of 1Trust Group Home
  • Any other duties that as assigned and part of supervisors’ direction (must be ethical)
  • Assisting residents in developing relationships with each other
  • Attend Staff Meetings
  • Attend all trainings required
  • Handle emergency situations appropriately, (according to 1Trust Group Home and ODJFS policies). Utilize crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Teach and/or support individuals in utilizing public transportation. Transport individuals to appropriate appointments only when necessary
  • Perform daily record keeping (i.e., data collection, daily logs). Exchange information with next shift and/or with support staff.
  • Follow individual treatment plans consistently.
  • Conduct and document monthly fire drills according to ODJFS procedures.
  • Make good judgments, including the ability to evaluate, make decisions, and anticipate consequences for youth
  • Receive, review, process, file and submit a variety of documents and reports (e.g., personnel information, visitation/contact sheets, goals, progress notes, daily data collection sheets, etc.).
  • Actively shows an initiative and motivation to learn

Training and Staff Development Activities

  • Attend trainings hours for annual requirements of ODJFS as described in policies and procedures (This applies to All employees at 1Trust Group Home)
  • Attend continuing training for certifications required by ODJFS and works with Direct Supervision on the development and implementation of a supervisory development plan.
  • For QRTP Trauma Model the childcare worker to be trained in OOC: Trauma Informed Approaches through eBased Academy to cover the requirements of ODJFS on the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT) model.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings

Personnel Management

  • Coordinate with Administrator for additional training as needed
  • Coordinate with Administrator on policies and procedures
  • Assisting Administrator in conducting reviews for residents
  • Facilitating teamwork with residents, delegating tasks and responsibilities to residents.
  • Encouraging effective communication, defusing crisis, and conflicts between 1Trust Group Home residents.

Child Care Worker Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) and/or two years of experience working with children or youth in a residential setting required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Meets the general qualifications for employment as outlined in the agencies' personnel policies.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver License along with auto insurance
  • Must have excellent driving record
  • OMV Report required
  • Must Pass criminal background (BCI and FBI CHECK)
  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Morning shift

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (Preferred)
