Light House Family Services is Hiring a HEAD TEACHER – Early Childhood Daycare Center Near Brooklyn, NY

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Market the program to ensure full center utilization year-round including hosting open house events, posts to approved social media platforms, creation of flyers, etc., and promote partnership with surrounding communities.
  • Serve as acting center administrator in the absence of the Executive and Assistant Directors. Supervise, manage, and direct Assistant Teachers and student teachers, if assigned.
  • Effectively communicate program goals and philosophy to parents and classroom staff.
  • Design, organize, and maintain the classroom environment to promote and provide developmentally appropriate activities, including, well-defined learning centers and materials for the age group.
  • Create, facilitate, and maintain a warm, engaging, and comfortable environment for children, co-workers and parents.
  • Plan and implement emergent curriculum weekly, as per Developmentally Appropriate Practice, program philosophy, and Curriculum.
  • Maintain a child-centered, intentional teaching focus facilitating growth in all domains.
  • Differentiate teaching approaches based on each child's needs, interests, behaviors, and developmental levels.
  • Complete classroom documentation requirements including, but not limited to, lesson plans, portfolios, and assessments.
  • Document incidents and accidents. Inform parents appropriately. Maintain the health, wellbeing, and safety of the children, as the first priority, at all times.
  • Ensure that appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times. Independently supervise small groups within the ratio. Cover in other classrooms, as assigned.
  • Track children’s presence in the classroom, within Lighthouse Family services, and departures from the Lighthouse Family services at all times on the Classroom In/Out Log, as described in the Signing Children In and Out of Classroom Policy in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in center family activities and events semi-annual celebrations.
  • With Program Administration, support families in meeting the needs of all individual children, as per the Working with Children with Special Needs Policy.
  • Participate in all required classroom team and center staff meetings.
  • Attend required training and staff development sessions, conferences and workshops. Integrate concepts learned into classroom practice.
  • Maintain the Lighthouse Family services library for children and parents.
  • Perform other duties, activities, and projects as assigned and directed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to push 100 pounds, such as children in strollers, buggies, or evacuation cribs.
  • Must be able to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time; move quickly and easily from sitting to standing position.
  • Must be able to stand, walk and perform duties outdoors on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ramps/ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, squat and bend.
  • Must be able to reach above the shoulders and must be capable of hand grasping, touching, pulling, in addition to, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able and willing to perform all classroom teaching responsibilities including diaper changes.
  • Ability to work both inside and outside.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.), or preferably a Master’s Degree (M.A.), in early childhood education or a related field from an accredited college or university, or at least the minimum educational requirement for licensing.
  • Teacher certification by the State of New York or New Jersey, or Department of Education, if required by licensing.
  • Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience with young children.
