Job Summary:

As a Substance Use Disorder Counselor, you'll assist individuals, in accordance with their treatment plan, with mental health and/or substance use disorder(s) to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and educational/working environments. Our ideal candidate is passionate about mental health and substance use disorder treatment, has relevant counseling experience, and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete intake/screening/assessments
  • Facilitate group counseling, group education, family conferences, and individual sessions focused on resolving problems related to substance use that interfere with the person's functioning.
  • Work with clients/patients to examine attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that promote recovery, healthy decision making, and improved problem solving skills.
  • Develop treatment plans for clients in accordance with state regulatory/CARF guidelines that demonstrate individualization and evolution based on information gathered from assessment.
  • Assist clients through transition process and complete final correspondence such as transition summary, plan, letter, etc.
  • Complete correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in clinical staffing/treatment team meetings providing feedback on pertinent cases.
  • Document all services provided in accordance with state regulatory/CARF/agency standards.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with referral sources, clients, and coworkers, adhering to Code of Ethics and agency policies.
  • Handle crisis situations as they arise.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Kansas: Hold the credentials as defined by the Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board (BSRB) - Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) or Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC)
  • Missouri: Hold the credentials of a Qualified Addiction Professional as defined by the Missouri Credentialing Board, Inc. (MCB) - CADC, CRADC, CRAADC, RADC, or CCJP; or Credential of Co-Occurring

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish rapport with clients/patients and employ effective counseling techniques to assist in recovery and improve overall functioning.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to produce clear reports and collaborate effectively.
  • Lived experience in active recovery from substance use disorder is a plus.
  • Current driver's license, auto insurance, clear driving record, and willingness to obtain additional licenses and provide telehealth services.
  • Knowledge of caseload management, rehabilitation methods, legal requirements, and treatment modalities for mental health and substance use disorders. Will provide chosen candidate with ample training to fill in knowledge gaps in these areas.
  • Applicant must be willing to become licensed in additional states, other than the state currently licensed in.
  • Applicant must be willing and comfortable with providing telehealth services to the individuals we serve.
