Riverside Elementary School District #2 is Hiring a District School Psychologist Near Phoenix, AZ

Position Title: District School Psychologist

Classification: Administrative

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal/Director of ESS

Position Overview: 

The District School Psychologist coordinates with the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team to assess students who have been referred by the Child Study Team or other agency. Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the School Psychologist’s primary duty is that of psychological service to children.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs Child Find duties using the appropriate practices.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of district programs and works as part of an Individualized Education Program team to determine educational placements and supports to meet the academic and behavioral needs and least restrictive environments of students.
  3. Acts as the primary evaluator on the MET in conducting evaluations and chairs Multidisciplinary Conferences to determine student eligibility for special education.
  4. Conducts Transfer Evaluations, Initial Evaluations and Re-Evaluations.
  5. Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA using research-based practices), and constructs effective positive-reinforcement based Functional Behavior Intervention Plans (FBIP) from the FBA data.
  6. Promotes the introduction and implementation of school wide programs in schools to maintain positive school climates conducive to learning and to meet the psychological, educational, and sociological needs of children.
  7. Consults with school/district personnel in the selection of appropriate interventions to improve students’ social, emotional, and educational functioning.
  8. Administers and interprets a wide range of individualized standardized assessment instruments in all psychological domains and other achievement and assessment instruments as appropriate.
  9. Writes comprehensive diagnostic, Themed evaluation reports based on evaluation results and, in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) as a whole, determines student eligibility for special education programs in compliance with IDEA, State Board of Education rules and regulations, and local procedures within required timelines.
  10. Psychologists will make certain that curriculum-based assessments are collected as part of the assessment and will consult with service coordinators, when needed, in collecting such data.
  11. Consults with teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide motivating educational environment.
  12.  Is able to complete interventions and instructional support to assist in developing academic skills. Is familiar with Individual Education Plans (IEP) and is able to assist in writing and can consult on implementing goals.
  13.  Coordinates and consults with related service staff (i.e. Speech, OT, PT, Vision, Audiology, etc.) as part of the assessment process. Makes certain appropriate staff is invited to the MET meeting.
  14.  Maintains confidential files and accurate records on all identified students.
  15.  Maintains compliance with federal and state statutes and district policies and procedures.
  16.  Prepares required written reports in a timely manner to summarize findings, interpret data, and offer recommendations.
  17.  Assists teachers and others in interpreting and using assessment data for program planning of identified students.
  18.  Provides social, emotional, and behavioral health support to students and personnel as part of the district Response to Intervention Team.
  19.  Consults with the General Education Intervention Team (RtI Team), known as the Response to Intervention Team (RtI Team), as needed, and attends at least the last RtI Team meeting prior to a referral to special education.
  20.  Will serve on the Emergency Response Team at the campus level. Will serve, if requested, on the District Emergency Response Team
  21.  Demonstrates respect and rapport with administrators, faculty, staff, parent, students, and colleagues.
  22.  Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Master’s degree in School Psychology
  • Doctorate degree in Psychology preferred 

Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Arizona School Psychologist Certification
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of school psychology experience.
  • Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population.

 Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
  • Read a variety of manuals; writes documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others.
  • Understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Must become familiar with the District Special Education Procedural Manual.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: recordkeeping principles; and office equipment/software.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional situations; Responds promptly to student, staff, and public needs.
  • Interpersonal Skills - Maintains confidentiality; Creates and maintains a positive and conducive work environment.

  • Knowledge of Internet and District software
  • Must have knowledge of computers and the report writing system (e-IEPPRO) used by the District.

 Working Environment

The work environment is a normal school and office setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment

12-Month, Administrative – Exempt. Benefits in accordance with Governing Board policies.

Evaluation

Performance to be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy on evaluation of Certified Staff. Performance evaluation performed by Principal and ESS Director.
