Mel Trotter Ministries Thrift Store is Hiring a Store Manager (Alpine) Near Grand Rapids, MI

Responsible for carrying out all operations in the store, including, but not limited to, creating a Christ centered environment, hiring and developing a qualified team, continual training and coaching for all staff, register operations, customer service, store appearance and displays, processing/sorting donations, pricing and employee interactions, as outlined in the essential functions of the job and in compliance with company policies, procedures and mission statement.

*This will be a new store opening and will require working to help get the store opened with new staff*


Essential Functions of the Job
1. Lead by being an example of Christ to all staff, donors, and customers.
2. Lead and equip team in the retail operations of the store, including the handling of cash and credit card
payments, refunds, and all functions of the POS system in order to ensure the accuracy and security of all
transactions.
3. Complete, with accuracy, all financial reporting and bank deposits, to ensure truthful reporting and recording
of daily sales and donations.
4. Work with the management team to make daily bank deposits and acquire change for the register to ensure
the accuracy and security of store funds.
5. Must fulfill the required hours and required scheduled shifts unless otherwise approved by the Director of
Operations. Additionally, office hours should consist of only work related administrative tasks and should be
limited in time.
6. Must approve timecards by 10:00 am on Payroll Mondays.
7. Payroll Mondays should also be the days when managers create schedules two weeks out, unless
otherwise discussed with the Director.
8. Complete with accuracy and a high level of organization all administrative needs of the store including
schedules, coaching documentation, performance logs and any other necessary documentation that is
needed for the operation of the department.
9. Accurately keep up with and fill out labor worksheets every Monday and on an as needed basis.
10. Establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission
statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
11. Responsible for the training of new employees in order to ensure the employees have all essential training
needed to be successful in their position.
12. Work with store staff, to maintain the physical appearance of the store, including, but not limited to ordering
and maintaining needed janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store
merchandise and restoring to proper place, cleaning parking lot, sidewalks, windows and doors, store floors,
restrooms and other public areas, to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees.
13. Be sure that the retail floor has proper branding protocol in place including register and front door signage.
14. Lead and train store staff in stocking store shelves and clothing racks, in order to provide customers with
maximum shopping opportunities.
15. Manage the continual set up and change of store displays in order to provide a pleasant shopping
environment and to entice customers to shop new areas or items within the store.
16. Communicate all events related to customer service issues or problems, employee issues or accidents, and
general store operations to the Director of Operations, in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and
in accordance with company policies and procedures.
17. Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations to ensure all store issues, praises, employee
relations, etc. are addressed.
18. Attend, as requested, training events provided by the company and all manager meetings as scheduled by
the Director of Operations and Team Services Department.
19. Work with and effectively communicate with the Processing Manager, processing employees and donors on
a daily basis in order to keep a positive flow of information and foster unity among all involved.
20. All opening and closing procedures of the store should be performed in compliance to the company
operations procedures.
21. All other related responsibilities as requested by the Director of Operations.

12. Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel (spreadsheets).
13. Email communications (including attachments).
14. Ability to operate general office machines, copier, fax, printers, scanners.
15. Ability to read and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
16. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
17. Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine..

Planning & Organizing
1. Must be detail-oriented and have solid organizational skills.
2. Must be able to prioritize the needs of the store in an effective and efficient manner according to the
standards set by the Director of Operations.
3. Must possess a demonstrable level of skill and proficiency in planning so as to meet
established goals.

Education & Experience
High School diploma or GED required. Two to three years experience in retail or related experience preferred.

Moderate physical activity. Depending on location, this position may require frequent strenuous activity. Able to lift at
least 50 pounds. Use hands to lift, sort, clean, organize throughout a standard work day. Depending on location, this
position may work in a warehouse setting with some outdoor exposure throughout the workday. Depending on
location, may be required to wear a blue Mel Trotter’ T-shirt that is provided upon hire. Will have to wear a name
badge.

VISION REQUIREMENTS
1. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
2. Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
3. Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
4. Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are
fixed on a given point).
5. Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
6. Ability to adjust focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Work Schedule and Required Hours
Full time, Monday through Saturday, 43 hours per week. Minimum of two (2) closing shifts a week required. Two (2)
shifts a month must be a weekend closing shift. Saturday shifts can’t be half days. In order to effectively process payroll, department managers must work the opening shift on Payroll Monday, unless
otherwise approved by the Director of Operations.
Attendance at specific meetings, off-site events or training, as required.

$37,000 - $40,000 per year
