The mission of Catholic Charities is to serve those most in need and to advocate for justice in the community.
As the need for our services grows and becomes increasingly complex, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond. We respond in three ways - preventing poverty, meeting basic needs in times of crisis, and creating pathways out of poverty.
WAGE RANGE: $19.60-$22.80/hourly
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking a fun-loving, experienced child-centered individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to work as a Teacher at its Northside Child Development Center.
An individual in this position will contribute to the daily interaction and supervision of children. They are responsible for supervision of classroom including the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for assigned groups.
In the absence of the Supervisory Teacher, they may be responsible for supervision and coordination of classroom staff in assigned groups.
They will maintain positive relationships with staff, children, parents, volunteers, and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Supervise, plan, and implement daily program including curriculum activities that provide for all areas of development.
  2. Supervise and provide and environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adults, other children, and materials.
  3. Supervise and provide a variety of activities and materials that allow for increasing difficulty, complexity, and challenge.
  4. Provide multicultural and nonsexist experiences, materials, and equipment for children.
  5. Provide activities that encourage creative and artistic expression, language development, and early literacy development programming.
  6. Supervise and provide a balance of child initiated and teacher-initiated activities.
  7. Supervise and provide appropriate stress-reducing activities and techniques that will assure an emotionally calm and safe environment.
  8. Supervise and interact with children at meals including talking with the children.
  9. Supervise the development of self-esteem by respecting, accepting and comforting children, regardless of the child's behavior.
  10. The development of self-control in the children must be facilitated at all times.
  11. Ensure that child development knowledge, insights and resources are shared with parents as part of regular communication.
  12. Ensure sanitizing procedures and universal precautions are maintained.
  13. Provide room orientation to new staff and volunteers in your room.
  14. Must be willing to volunteer at least four times a year to stay for a family night or other events held at the center during afterhours.
  15. Respond to and supervise age-appropriate toileting needs.
  16. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:
  • Teacher qualified under the DHS Rule 3 standards.
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working in center-based child-care.
  • Desire to care for young children with an ability to promote child development information to parents.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required for job, however, if you do not have a current CPR certification, we will provide training.
