Position Purpose: The Family-School Engagement Coordinator provides key leadership in building trust-based relationships among and between families and the school. They will help to build strong ties and informal networks between families and school staff so that they feel a part of a larger community and experience greater collective action. They will help foster meaningful dialogue that centers the voices of family members and leaders to cross-cultural learning which will help equip families with the information they need to navigate the school system and effectively advocate for their children's education. Essential Job Responsibilities:
Create and execute a system for the school and families to cultivate strong relationships and mutual learning between the school and families
Provide opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement; help parents understand the school system so they can become better advocates for their children’s education
Promote parents as partners by involving them in the decision-making process regarding and family engagement activities and school improvement.
Provide workshops, classes, and activities for parents at the school on a regular basis
Recruit volunteers from the community to host various workshops and classes to speak directly with parents
Educate teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students
Help educators discover more effective approaches to fostering connection and understanding the experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse families.
Co-design transformative action projects that remove barriers to create more collaborative and equitable school communities.
Advise and train parents on how to address issues with teachers and the school leadership staff
In collaboration with other school staff, provide referrals for community-based services for families dealing with conditions that impact the academic achievement of their students
Provides or coordinates supportive counseling on a short term basis with parents/families who have a student experiencing difficulty in school or who requests assistance regarding a family concern
Expand opportunities for continued learning and voluntary classroom service and school participation
Promote the sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; maintain a resource center for parents and staff (where applicable).
Serves as a member of the school problem-solving team; assists in supporting the student behavior plans as requested
Take part in professional learning opportunities at the local, regional, and/or state level with proper authorization; attend all local meetings and trainings for Family Engagement Coordinator; share ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership team, and/or other parent professionals.
Maintain excellent records of all parent and family engagement activities, reports, surveys/evaluations, funding, annual program evaluations, and communication to parents; ensure school parent and family engagement program remains in compliance with all state and federal guidelines
Ensure that Title 1, Part A parent and family engagement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity under this section of the law

Bachelor Degree in Social Work or other related field required, Master’s Degree in Social Work preferred
