Description

Job Summary: Responsible to greet patients, activate patient files, and move patients through a pre- determined protocol at clinic.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include scheduling and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assist patients with changing to exam gowns, and transfer to exam table if needed
2. Assess patient’s general condition and collect patient history
3. Document health history, activities, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record
4. Provide basic patient care as ordered by physician and assist physician with various procedures
5. Provides patient education materials, communicates physician advice/instructions to patient
6. Cast and splint application and removal
7. Fit patients with braces, boots, other DME as ordered by physician
8. Wound dressing changes
9. Prepare injections
10. Suture and staple removal
11. Sterile tray set-ups
12. Obtain lab/x-ray reports
13. Schedule surgery, hospital procedures and pre- and post-op appointments
14. Schedule MRI, CT scans, labs, etc.
15. Schedule referrals to other physicians
16. Perform ECG studies
17. Clean and stock exam rooms
18. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies
19. Compliance with HIPAA, OSHA and Red Flag Rules

20. May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician or outlined in standard of care protocol.

21. Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures.

22. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED certificate. Graduation from a Medical Assistant program preferred.

Experience: NA

Other Requirements:

1. Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)

1. Good communication skills
2. Maintain current CPR certification

Physical/Mental Requirements:

1. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching
2. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to life up to 30 pounds
3. Occasional stress from workload
4. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, copy machine, writing instruments, pc, fax and medical equipment including stethoscope, ECG, blood pressure cuff, and cast saw equipment.
