Purpose
The Medical Director (or Associate) Dermatology NA is part of the Medical Affairs HIDO* Strategy team. The main responsibility of the role is to lead on the development and implementation of the Medical Affairs strategy and tactics for Epidermolysis Bullosa (and Dermatology) in NA. The role will be the internal and external subject matter expert for NA.
Main Responsibilities
These activities will include but are not limited to:
  • Developing into the expert source on EB and Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes) in NA
  • Defining the Medical Affairs strategy and tactical plans for Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes) in NA
  • Aligning with the Global Medical Director and Head of Medical Affairs Americas on the wider GMA and NA strategy
  • Proactive medical representation on the cross functional team and strong liaison with internal stakeholders
  • Delivery of tactical activities including but not limited to external medical educational activities and local NA congresses. Work with the Global Medical Director for major NA congresses. Ensure appropriate selection of speakers, lecture topics and key message delivery
  • Lead and execute on NA Medical Advisory Boards to gather expert advice into strategies and plans for Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes)
  • Working with Head Patient Advocacy to ensure a coordinated and seamless strategy and approach for engagement with the key patient advocacy organizations
  • Further mapping of the NA KOLs from the key treatment centers and community clinics as required in conjunction with the wider cross functional team
  • Build and maintain relationships with NA key opinion leaders and HCPs in concert with the Head of Field Medical, the MSL manager, field medical team, and the Global Medical Director
  • Development and review of medical materials for the field medical team. Working alongside the cross-functional teams to develop strategies and materials in this early post launch phase and beyond
  • Represent Medical Affairs at promotional and medical review boards to ensure accurate and compliant dissemination of medical data, key messages, and other materials submitted by the cross-functional teams
  • Support for the reimbursement processes and dossiers in NA to ensure the best positioning of the product
  • Delivery of internal training on EB and Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes). Development of and extension to the educational program to ensure the highest levels of knowledge within the teams
  • Input into and lead the Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes) NA publication plan, along with Head Scientific Communications to maximize the publication and communication of data
  • Execute the real-world data generation plan to ensure we have the appropriate scientific, outcomes and health economic data to support Oleogel-S10 (Birch Triterpenes) in NA, aligning with the data generation plan globally
  • Lead on review of research grants and post-marketing research proposals and protocols, initiation of start-up activities and contractual documents, and monitoring milestones for medical affairs studies in line with regulatory and Chiesi compliance guidelines
  • Working with the Global Medical Director and Clinical Development / Regulatory teams as required on future strategies with relevant regulatory agencies
  • Strategic input into business development activities
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in compliance with all relevant country codes and regulations
Experience Required
  • More than 5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs with experience working with (and leading) cross functional teams. Prior experience working on a launch brand in rare disease preferred. Experience in rare diseases is also a plus
  • Strategic thinker who is also happy to be “hands on” practically with a solution-driven attitude. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced environment, work independently, and complete tasks in a timely fashion
  • Flexible, and organized with high levels of planning
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in combination with strong attention to detail as well as the ability to prioritize in a changing environment with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication skills and operational effectiveness with a flexible and solution-driven attitude and proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and navigate within cross-functional team
  • Ability to interpret and present complex clinical data in a clear manner to a variety of audiences
  • Continuously expanding medical and scientific knowledge and have scope for personal growth and development.

  • Proven strong Medical Affairs skills (study design, management and conduct of studies, study evaluation, medical writing skills, expert panel conduct, symposium and workshop management, KOL management)

  • Applies entrepreneurial thinking and spirit in developing the brand

The role is flexibly based in the US with travel across NA as required
Education
  • Education: Advanced Degree preferred but not essential - MD, PhD, PharmD or equivalent
