Parenting Now is Hiring a Family Support Specialist - Healthy Families Near Eugene, OR

General Purpose of Position: The primary responsibility of this position is to promote and assist in strengthening the parent-child bond using an Infant Mental Health model in accordance with Healthy Families America, Healthy Families Oregon, and Healthy Families Lane County policies and procedures. Visits are family centered, strength-based and occur primarily in the home.

Job Duties:

  • Establish a trusting relationship with families and coworkers
  • Maintain regular contact with families through weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly home visits
  • Use integrated strategies for home visiting to promote and initiate change
  • Assess family strengths and needs through the initial FROG assessment
  • Provide information and support with parent-child attachment and child development
  • Facilitate families developing and achieving Family Goal Plans
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for parent-child interaction
  • Use screens with families such as PHQ-9, ASQ, and ASQ-SE
  • Complete required forms for research component
  • Provide resource information and referrals as needed
  • Meet with supervisor for weekly 1.5 – 2 hours a week and as needed for reflective supervision
  • Maintain paperwork and family files in accordance with Healthy Families Lane County
  • Attend staff meetings, county meetings, training, and other meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to relate tactfully, confidently, sensitively and without judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and computer skills including Excel, Word and databases
  • Ability to respect and value diversity and individual differences
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive, in-home services
  • Evidence of flexibility, emotional maturity and stability
  • Ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment
  • Ability to be highly organized with paperwork and meet deadlines effectively
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing
  • Ability to identify and respond to needs of families
  • Ability to build trusting relationships
  • Positive attitude toward work, maintain personal balance, take initiative
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively under pressure
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment
  • Open to reflective practice (has capacity for introspection, communicates awareness of self in reflection to others, recognizes value of supervision, etc.)
  • Strong background in prevention services to 0-3 population

Desired Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or the equivalent with a background in social service or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Infant Mental Health Endorsement preferred
