Salary:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Outage Coordinator is responsible for direct oversight and management of all outage-related activities. In this role, the coordinator will be responsible for receiving all outage requests, submitting outage requests to Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), coordinating required outages with neighboring utilities and generators, and proving regular outage updates to internal and external stakeholders. The Outage Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting and leading various department programs such as new operations applications tools, developing standard operating procedures, and developing outages plans and sequences with various stakeholder groups. This position will be located in Austin, TX, and will report to the System Operations Supervisor.

DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, review, submit, and communicate all outage requests.
  • Maintain portfolio view of all outage activities to optimize maintenance and construction outage opportunities.
  • Work directly with internal stakeholders to develop necessary outage plans for maintenance activities and new construction outages.
  • Establish work scopes based on previous outage reports, preventative maintenance, lessons learned, and construction activities.
  • Regular coordination with ERCOT, neighboring utilities, and generators.
  • Lead internal outage coordination meetings.
  • Prepare and review switching procedures.
  • Attend and participate in outage coordination meetings with external stakeholders (i.e. ERCOT).
  • Oversight and management of outage tracking tools (calendar, tracker, general inbox).
  • Assistance and management of department projects (integrated tools for operations applications).
  • Cross-coordination with multiple departments such as planning, engineering, construction, and field staff.
  • Support management and coordination of WETT’s work order system by scheduling and assigning required work orders for outage activity.
  • Develop work process steps that will support implementation of specific procedures or programs.
  • Assist system operators during real-time events and emergencies.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS (enter as a bulleted list)

  • Education:
    • High school diploma required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Minium 5 years of work experience in transmission system operations is required.
    • Minimum 5 years work experience in outage coordination is required.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working within ERCOT.
    • Experience writing and reviewing switching orders.
  • Certificates & Licenses:
    • NERC Transmission Operator (TO) or Reliability Coordinator (RC) certification is preferred.
    • OSHA 10 and/or 30 may be required in the future and encouraged for advancement.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Experience with utilizing various ERCOT tools such as outage scheduling.
    • Ability to use and quickly comprehend computer-based systems utilized for content management, data entry, data tracking, and work processes.
    • Ability to create presentations, charts, tables, and graphs for data illustration.
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook).
  • Competencies:
    • Thorough knowledge of the Bulk Electric System.
    • Read and interpret electrical drawings such as system one-lines.
    • Development of switching orders.
    • Communication
    • Organization of information, assigned tasks, communications, and data.
    • Documentation and tracking of critical information.
    • Time management

JOB PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Job progression opportunities include expanding the outage coordination and planning department and bolstering external and internal stakeholder coordination efforts (i.e. ERCOT, neighboring utilities, internal project team). Progression will be reviewed with supervisor based on department needs, growth, and the individual’s performance.
