About You

As a Lead Teacher, you will develop and implement the curriculum for our 0-18 months toddler class. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic teacher to join our team at The Corner School, our onsite child care center located at TASB’s Corporate Headquarters in Northwest Austin. Our teachers passionately embrace their work with children. The Corner School has a comprehensive, play-based curriculum and a strong parent-teacher network, and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of children. The school has six classrooms offering low child-to-teacher ratios and an outdoor play space. The patrons of the school include children of TASB employees as well as other children in the community. This position requires successful candidate to work onsite. 

A Typical Day 

  • Develop curriculum and daily lesson plans that are based on an assessment of each child’s development and the goals of The Corner School.
  • Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team of teachers throughout the year with fun events and professional development opportunities.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Direct the day-to-day functioning of the classroom.
  • Supervise children at all times. Observe and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors year-round, assuring their health and safety.
  • Ensure that each child receives individual attention.
  • Delegate specific housekeeping tasks to Assistant Teacher to maintain order in the classroom.
  • Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff.
  • Provide supervision, encouragement, and guidance for substitute teachers, volunteers and others in the program.
  • Maintain the teaching and caregiving standards established by the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (DFPS) and the standards set by the Academy of Early Childhood Programs.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through daily greetings and written comments on children’s daily charts.
  • Conduct biannual parent conferences and maintain appropriate notes in each child’s file.
  • Assist Director with planning and implementing parent programs.
  • Identify training needs for Assistant Teacher and Teacher’s Aide. Provide guidance and support of Assistant Teacher and Teacher’s Aide as they grow professionally.
  • Provide informed and accurate input in the performance evaluation of Assistant Teacher assigned to the classroom.
  • Welcome new parents to The Corner School, conduct a welcome orientation which highlights the infant program as well as the goals for the school. 

Skills For Success

  • Minimum of 3 years of childcare experience in a licensed facility required.
  • Bachelors in Early Childhood Development or CDA preferred. 
  • Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation requirements and procedures is preferred. 
  • Must be able to meet physical demands of role such as lifting children, helping with toileting or diapering needs, and ability to lead emergency evacuation procedures with ease as needed.
  • Communicates effectively and clearly with parents, staff and administrators, in both verbal and written form.
  • Presents a good model to children of language use, both verbal and written.
  • Understands and shows respect for confidentiality of children, parents and other staff.
