It's part of our story. What's yours?We're currently seeking a Staff Accountant with a focus on payroll and tax responsibilities. In this role, you will oversee our payroll processing and ensure timely reporting and payment of sales tax, VAT, and GST. In this role, you'll be responsible for meticulously reviewing employee information and hours worked, occasionally computing wages for new hires, and managing the preparation and processing of employee payments through our payroll vendor, ADP. Additionally, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate reporting and payment of sales tax, VAT, and GST using our vendor, Avalara.

Your responsibilities will encompass gathering relevant tax data, inputting it into our reporting system, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. You'll also be responsible for reconciling tax payments to the general ledger and addressing any discrepancies that arise.To thrive in this position, you'll need a solid understanding of indirect tax principles and regulations, as well as proficiency in payroll and accounting software (NetSuite). Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, as you'll be entrusted with maintaining precise records and meeting reporting deadlines.In managing our payroll process, this position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills as you'll be collaborating closely with various teams and stakeholders. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, along with a high numerical aptitude and meticulous attention to detail, will also be key to your success. Your responsibilities will include collecting and reviewing employee information and working hours, calculating wages, preparing, and processing employee payments with a third-party payroll vendor (ADP), and maintaining accurate payroll records. The ability to investigate and resolve payroll issues and comply with strict compliance with company and regulatory standards is crucial.

Responsibilities (Tax)

  • Maintains and manages all domestic and international sales and uses tax, VAT and, GST
  • Responsible for the filing (and coordination) of all tax documents in a timely manner ensuring the resulting liabilities are paid on a timely basis using third party tax return preparers (Avalara).
  • Assists with financial/tax audits and gathers required audit information. 
  • Performs bank reconciliations as needed 
  • Ensures financial accounts as assigned are properly supported and reconciled. 

Responsibilities (Payroll)

  • Communication with managers, collecting timesheet data and payroll information
  • Entering data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs
  • Calculating wages, benefits, tax deductions, expenses, and commissions
  • Interacting and communicating with third-party payroll vendors in a timely manner
  • Maintaining accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions
  • Collaborating closely with the People & Culture team to ensure payroll information accuracy
  • Assisting with annual 401k audit
  • Preparing Journal Entries to record payroll
  • Responding to payroll-related inquiries and resolving concerns
  • Performing Balance Sheet reconciliations, as applicable
  • Preparing financial reports for accounting and auditing purposes
  • Assisting with month and year-end closings
  • Assisting with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
  • Assisting with year-end audit
  • Departmental filing, as necessary
  • Preparing periodic payroll reports for review by management
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, economics, finance, or business
  • At least 5 years of general accounting experience
  • 3 years of payroll and tax experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and payroll practices
  • Strong experience with indirect taxes and compliance with domestic and international sales and use tax regulations including the coordination of filing of all tax documents in a timely manner.
  • Experience with accounting for payables/expenditures and cash in various foreign currencies
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of completeness and accuracy
  • Highly proficient in monthly / year-end close process, reconciliations, and general ledger
  • Major ERP systems experience (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft, etc.)
  • Experience working with accounting and HRIS payroll software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with proven use of advanced Excel functionality
  • Willing and available when needed to put in extra time to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of completeness and accuracy
  • A collaborative, customer-centric approach with the ability to work across functions, yet self-motivated and can complete tasks independently.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve complex financial issues
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to summarize financial data to allow management to use this information to better run the business
  • Be able to work in a hybrid environment out of our RTP, NC office, with approximately 2 days in the office per week.
