    Job Description
    Summary/objective
    The Student Resource Center secretary is responsible for greeting and directing students and other stakeholders both in-person and over the phone. The position also provides clerical support to other staff of the Student Resource Center.
    Essential functions
    • Greet public, answer telephone, and serve as secretary in the student resource center
    • Provide information on GPTC courses and classes to prospective students
    • Schedule appointments for prospective and current students with student resource center staff
    • Input and scan information received on prospective students to include student records, transcripts, applications, assessment scores, etc., in student database
    • Assist with clerical duties, filing, and typing as assigned
    • Create, submit and finalize all purchase orders with Administrator’s approval
    • Serve as switchboard operator when necessary
    • Create, mail merge, and send student letters and related documents
    • Stock, print, edit and maintain all documents for student resource center and programs
    • Assist all student resource center staff as necessary
    • Assist with student withdrawals and other related tasks as assigned
    • Assist with recruitment and retention activities as assigned
    Competencies
    • Customer Service: Be consistently courteous and helpful in all interactions, work to resolve issues quickly even when it requires extra work, and being positive and friendly even in difficult situations.
    • Communication Skills: Be an effective communicator, able to convey information clearly and concisely to students, colleagues, and others. Listen actively and respond appropriately to inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Be proficient in communicating both orally and in writing.
    • Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of work, including preparation, punctuality, attendance and commitment to ongoing development. Work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
    • Computer Skills: Possess intermediate computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
    Supervisory responsibilities
    None
    Work environment
    The career advisor typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work other settings. A standard workweek is required but this position may also require evening or weekend hours.
    Physical demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, move/position objects, move about their office, building and/or across campus, respond to emergency situations and communicate with staff, parents, and students. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
    Travel required
    Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
    Required education and experience
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Two years’ experience and/or education in the clerical field
