    Job Description
    Summary/objective
    Performs facilities and equipment maintenance; troubleshoots; performs minor repairs; setup and takedown for a wide variety of equipment and simulation devices. Supports the industrial maintenance instructors, staff, and coordinators to set up classrooms and shops.
    Essential functions
    • Performs various maintenance duties such as fabrication, installation, and repair to simulation equipment and trainers in labs and classrooms.
    • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
    • Operates power equipment such as forklifts, scissor lift, hand and power tools and campus vehicles.
    • Troubleshoots and repairs minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical problems; replaces a variety of light bulbs and lighting accessories.
    • Transports equipment using a truck and box trailer.
    • Schedules, coordinates and performs routine and comprehensive maintenance of assigned facilities and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, welding bottles, etc.)
    • Cleans and disinfects eyewash stations, shop sinks, and re-useable PPE in the industrial training facilities. Orders, and stocks, shops and classrooms with consumable paper and supplies.
    • Reports and responds to emergency calls for maintenance assistance.
    • Responds to service requests.
    • Removes trash and scrap materials from shops.
    • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for consumable shop supplies.
    • Performs duty as a safety –monitor and test proctor for adult students at the direction of the Customized Training Coordinator.
    Competencies
    Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively: Basic understanding of machinery and equipment used in industrial settings. Familiarity with measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. Capability to read and interpret technical drawings or blueprints.
    Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Understanding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and proper usage.
    Teamwork and Communication: Collaboration with colleagues and supervisors to accomplish tasks efficiently. Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly. Willingness to assist others and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
    Problem-solving: Capability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and perform minor repairs. Resourcefulness in finding solutions to challenges encountered during tasks. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle unexpected situations effectively.
    Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of work, including preparation, punctuality, attendance and commitment to ongoing development.

    Work environment
    The Industrial Maintenance Shop Aid typically works in a classroom environment, but the mission of the school may require work in the business and industry community and other settings. A standard workweek is required, but additionally may require evening or weekend hours to accommodate activities such as travel within and outside of the Great Plains Service area, Board meetings and representation of Great Plains at public and school events.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to remain stationary, move/position objects up to and exceeding 50 pounds, move about their classroom, building and/or across campus and communicate with staff, parents and students. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
    Physical demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to remain stationary, frequently move/position objects up to and exceeding 50 pounds, move about their classroom, shop building and/or across campus and communicate with staff and students. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
    Travel required
    Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for work at other school sites, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
    Required education and experience
    • High school diploma or equivalency
    • Valid state drivers’ license
    • Possess, or obtain within 3 months, an OSHA Powered Industrial Truck certification
    • 1-year experience in a machine shop or manufacturing setting.
