George Fox University announces a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in Spanish, to begin in August 2024. The department of Language and Literature is seeking an experienced instructor to join their team as an Assistant Professor of Spanish. This faculty member will provide curricular oversight to the Spanish minor, to teach a range of Spanish classes, language acquisition classes, and/or writing/literature classes to support Latinx students. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the Spanish language, Spanish and Latinx cultures and literatures, and creative teaching to this position. Candidates with expertise in second-language acquisition, language teaching methods, and language pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching and assessing student learning (including field experience) in face-to-face classes on the Newberg Campus. (85%)
  • Providing curricular oversight to the Spanish minor. (5%)
  • Developing networks between local community partners and the University. (5%)
  • Supporting Latinx students through a variety of university initiatives. (5%)
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Ph.D or MA in Spanish, comparative literature, education or a related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • The ability to teach a range of courses including: beginning Spanish, advanced courses in Spanish/Latinx literatures and cultures, and Cornerstone (general education) classes in either Writing or Literature.
  • Permanent and unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and are embedded in a church community. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and rank:

  • Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
